Römer-Bembel — Restaurant in Frankfurt

Having read some of the reviews after visiting this place, I am inclined to believe that the servers performed according to their moods on the day. I went with family to Frankfurt town square late in the afternoon, decided to sit and eat. It had tables outside. The original server was courteous. Hadn't taken our order, his shift ended and our table was passed over to a lady server from new shift. The food arrived and we were happy cos the food was hot, and being the first meal, I would say the food is ok or not bad ( cos not until I had better food later in the journey, then i realised the food was ok only). Still, the issue was not about the food, but the services, so aside from our original server, there was an older and a younger guy serving too. The problem is after we ate, then we asked for the bill. The younger guy said wait for the server, 10 mins went by, we stopped the girl and she said wait for the server in a very dismissive way. Another 10 mins went by. Then I went in and ask the older guy for the bill, and he also said wait for the server, but his tone was very rude. we waited another 10 mins and I went to ask the old guy who is the server, he just ignored me, then the female server came in to get something, so I asked her is she the server cos I like to pay and leave, she said she is not and just wave hand to the younger guy outside. Then I had to stand at the door and shout at the young guy to come over, so I have all 3 by the bar and ask who is the server, as we have been waiting over 30 mins to pay and they just keep pointing at each other. Finally the young guy produce the bill on his phone. I was so mad that I decided to count out the exact amount, so we didn't have to wait another 30 mins for change. All the time I was counting the money, the young server keep saying to me, "tips are not included,tips are not included". I said funny how you suddenly pays a lot of attention. So anyway, I left the exact amount and no tips. I think this place, the food is ok, the service is much depend on their moods. If you are a tourist, there are probably signs everywhere, but you just won't know what they are saying. I will remember this place, as a place we will not be frequenting again. And I do believe, they may prefer if you leave an over amount on the table cos you fed up waiting, then they get their tips. Sorry for long review, but draw your own conclusion if you want to try this...

I have never seen such a bad service like this! the waiter was very rude and unfriendly. Too bad for such a good atmosphere. It was a weekday and the whole tables were almost empty. The place seems really nice and my friend wanted to eat something like a Schnitzel and we sat there. I was not hungry I just wanted to drink a beer. and we both order beers and she asked for a meal. and I was not hungry but just to order something (and I am vegan and not hungry) I ordered potatoes. because there are also nothing for me to eat and I was also not hungry. I just wanted to enjoy the view by drinking my beer. and my friend was having her meal. and when we ordered the waiter said to me really? you are in a restaurant and you order a bratkartoffel? and the rolling eyes... and I explained him that I am not hungry my friend will eat a proper (!) and I will drink beer and hew was very rude. and than he came back and asked if we want a non-alcoholic beer (with a strange attitude it was obvious that he had some stereotype that because we both have dark hair). Hey? If you dont like your job just dont work there! You don't have any rights to treat a customer like that! I can just even order a coffee and its none of your business! Its a very touristic place with a central location and of course I will drink and enjoy my beer with the view. I don't have to order a meal!!! especially if I am not hungry even though I ordered something more just to order more than a beer.... If it was a weekend or full with all tables I could have maybe understand this but it was almost empty! you don't want to serve? why do you keep it open? I have never ever had this experience before in any countries that I have ever visited! this is the worst place to be! What should I have supposed to do while my friend was eating? sitting another place? waiting somewhere else? how could you even say...

Incredible experience with the rudest staff I’ve ever seen! My friend and I (both native German) ordered two apple wine with sprite (which is a typical drink for this region). The waitress didn’t know what we meant and so we got something we didn’t order. The drink looked like aperol and although I’ve asked her if it is aperol she said “no it just looks like it”. As we complained about it because we’ve ordered something different she started discussing. So far so good her boss offered to get us new drinks (apple wine with sprite). The drinks we got then were exactly the same ones expect that they added sprite (which didn’t eliminate the aperol we didn’t want and didn’t order). We complained once more and the waitress started discussing again and said that we ordered aperol (we definitely didn’t), grabbed the drinks and was almost yelling at us. We felt really unwelcome and were given the impression to leave immediately. The fact that shocked me the most was that she just added sprite to the first drink with aperol in it and thought we would be stupid enough to believe her lies. The boss clapped on my back and said “schön” (=nice) and I still don’t know how to interpret the whole situation. In a nutshell, we left and I’ve never been so disappointed in a restaurant!
