Mio - Bistro Caffè Gelato — Restaurant in Hamburg

Honestly, probably has one of the worst and oddest customer services ever. That might include, but not limited to:

pay your check when you order, without getting a receipt (that is even before you've been brought anything - you'll just have to hope for the best)

suddenly being asked to pay because the waitress is ending her shift (I though I was placing my order with the restaurant and not with her personally)

folding down all the parasols on the terrace in the baking sun to the objection of the customers without an explanation (why?! We were sitting in the nice shade!)

only accepting cash and not informing you until it's time to pay the bill (sometimes you have to help fellow customers out with a few euros, because no one saw that coming. We are after all living in 2019)

Despite these oddities we keep coming back. The drinks are after all quite alright. The location fantastic. And despite their quirks, the staff are working hard and are pretty courteous (most of the time). A drink at Mio, overlooking the lake, is kind of a Hamburg essential. Just be prepared for all...

Mio Cafe Jungfernsteig Hamburg is a good place to have breakfast. Their platter for two with coffee included in the price was ample.for our needs on a warm summer's morning.

The place is popular and fills up quickly. Service was quick and the staff attentive and friendly. The location makes good use of the terrace to the waterside allowing relatively clear views of the Alster.

There are other places along this embankment but for me this was the most appealing due to its location. As other reviewers have said this place is not dirt cheap, but I felt that we had represented good...

Sadly, one of the worst places in terms of service. The waiters were gruff, stern, impolite to the extent that my friend and myself decided not to go back there. We were nearly screamed at for sitting down at a section they wanted to close off, where there were no visible signs of their intentions. Later, the waiters behaved as if we were a burden by huffing every time we asked for something. It was only 5PM so way before their closing time.
