Not worth your hard earned money. We ordered an Apfelstrudel, a BBQ Burger, a hot chocolate and a Sprite. While we were waiting for the food we noticed that all guests around us had received a complimentary bread basket with dip. However, we had not. New customers arrived, were seated and were given some bread, servers were bustling around and making sure they did, while we were still breadless. Now my boyfriend and I are a younger couple in our early 20s and most other guests were noticeably older. Maybe they thought we were not guests that would tip well anyway and could be neglected. Not a pleasant thought, when I come to your restaurant, I expect good service no matter my age. After I asked if we could get some bread as well we were indeed served some but the fact that I had to ask for it spoiled the experience. The bread and dip were good. My hot chocolate. With 4.80€ not exactly cheap, therefore big though. However, very much not tasty. As a matter of fact, it had absolutely no taste to it. And the whipped cream, for which they demanded a whopping 70 Cents extra (excuse me?!) was nowhere to be seen either. The Sprite was a sad little 200ml glas bottle that went for the outrageous price of 3.10€. Now after all these very unsatisfying experiences I was really looking forward to my Apfelstrudel. While it was covered in delicious (but not much) vanilla sauce and came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (tasty!) and a dollop of whipped cream (t'was okay) on the side, the pastry itself was disastrous. Only slightly warm, the filling made of apple slices with an unusual amount of spiky pieces and the pocket that contained it tasted very bready and unpleasant. I did expect a lot better for 7.90€. The BBQ Burger my boyfriend had ordered came with a side of fries and was, according to him, a good burger, with a good amount of sauce and 2 delicious bacon strips. However, it went for 15.90€ and you can find way better burgers at the Block House, so I wouldn't recommend coming for the burger. All in all we were very much not happy with the service and food provided and...
Read moreI don't know where to start. Probably the only good thing about this place is the location. Here's a breakdown of what happened:
We (2 persons) were sat at a 4-chair table. Waited for 10 minutes to be given the menu Another 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order The waiter splits our table for another couple as they ran out of space The other couple orders a similar food to ours The staff completely mess up the orders as they split the tables. The other couple get our order instead and we were told nothing Another 10 minutes for the staff to realise they messed up our order (which had only eggs in it to be boiled, other ingredients were just from the fridge) Now 40 minutes have passed since we ordered. The staff admitted they'd messed up our order. The order comes with one missing boiled egg, which we'd pointed out straight away The second egg comes after 15 minutes We ate, paid and left the place. All in all it took us over an hour to eat boiled eggs, bread rolls, gouda and some cold cuts.
Now I could've prepared this breakfast at home in 6 minutes as I would boil the eggs and plate the other stuff. The service in this place clearly needs looking into as I read from other reviews.
Finally, it's definitely overpriced as pointed out in other reviews too. 6 EUR for juices, soft drinks etc. The Melange breakfast plate that we had was about 18 EUR. Even London is not that expensive.
It could be a good place as it does have some potential with the location and the views. But...
Read moreWhile the food itself was decent, the overall experience was completely overshadowed by exceptionally poor service. From the outset, the waiter placed menus on the table without asking if we required English menus—something one would reasonably expect in such a tourist-heavy area of Hamburg. When I attempted to get the staff’s attention to request an English menu, I was ignored by one server who waved me off dismissively and refused to approach the table. When our actual waiter eventually noticed me, instead of acknowledging my request politely, he responded with exaggerated hand gestures and rudely stated, “I said wait,” in a defensive tone. I explained that I had been trying to get his attention for over five minutes, but rather than apologizing, he doubled down by saying, “I have a lot of people, it’s not just you, so you need to wait.” This lack of professionalism and courtesy was genuinely shocking. It took another six to seven minutes before we were finally given the correct menus. Unfortunately, the poor attitude continued throughout the evening. The waiter remained dismissive and gave us an unpleasant sense of being unwelcome. In summary, while the food was acceptable, the service was unprofessional, rude, and far below what one would expect from a restaurant in a major international city. I cannot recommend Café Mélange based on...
