Quintessence: The food was okay. The presentation looked nice, but it wasn't easy eating the food. In detail: My friend and I went to Ngan Tinh on a Tuesday evening at 6:10 pm ish. The restaurant was quite empty inside. I ordered the Bun Nem Cua Be (Rice noodles with springrolls, filled with meat, prawns and salad [sic!]). The dish was served in a basket covered with a banana leaf which is a really uncommon way to serve this dish, as you're meant to mix all different components including the sauce. But in this case the sauce would have dripped through the basket onto the table. So they obviously suggest you eat this dish by dipping all components separately into the sauce and put them into your mouth afterwards. The spring rolls were not presented as rolls but as a package. A big plus were the herbs inside of the basket. There were mint and perilla mint leaves, which you almost get nowhere in Hamburg. The Nước chấm was quite okay. They could have added more fish sauce and acidity to it (e.g. adding more lime or lemon juice) The restaurant itself is clean and just looks like any other typical Asian restaurant. The waitress was kind of impatient. She kind of urged us to order as quickly as possible, although there were almost no guests inside of the restaurant. If you want to use the bathroom you need to walk a long way, as the bathroom is not inside of the restaurant.

Ngan Tinh is like the monument for Vietnamese food in Hamburg. The restaurant is centrally located and the owner still works there regularly. The price is unbeatable and food is also great. Highly recommended for adventurous Vietnamese-food-lovers: - Bánh giò: a kind of big rice "dumpling" with filling made out of pork, mushrooms. There is so much filling and the flavor is just like in Vietnam. - Bánh bao - bao bun. - Bún chả: rice vermicelli with grilled pork bellies and meatballs, served with Salat and Vietnamese fishsauce mixture. - Bún cá: rice vermicelli with tomato fish broth. - Their weekly offer - Chè sương sa hạt lựu - Vietnamese dessert with coconut milk and various tapioca pearls (unlike those from bubble tea). - Avocado smoothie: super rich in avocado flavor. Their phở is just so-so though.

Location is good, ambience is good but not every staff were friendly. We had beef pho & duck mi vit. Both soup was just ok, nothing ummph. With additional slices of chili in the soup, it taste better. Mango salat with shrimp, just so la la. Not authentic like those you get in Vietnam. Overall, food suits European standard but not authentic enough. The elderly lady waitress was rude, always sour face. We asked for hot water to refill our tea pot and she gave only 1 glass for 2 pots, how *smart*?! When we said it's not enough for 2 pots, she took the glass away with unhappy face & came back with only half full glass, amazing! It's just hot water, we can pay for it, no problem - she just need to open her mouth to tell and not mumble and show sour face.

Also reservieren oder früh kommen.
