Edit 2023: Had lunch here with a friend. He had a Japanese bowl with raw salmon and the salmon was really fishy. A portion of rice is old - dry and has weird smell. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant again because of this reason.
I am thoroughly thrilled by the food quality here. It tasted great so far with all dishes everytime we ordered. If you are acquainted to the variety of fish sauces in Vietnam, tell them to do the dishes in Vietnamese way! They offer a proper-sized menu with no pork, so this should be your place if you are Muslim or have diet restriction without pork.
Mỳ quảng and bún bò Huế are so good! Flavorful and fresh! Phở is also not bad itself! Be careful with their fresh chili - they look small but they will make you literally cry ... Spring rolls are super crunchy and so moist and flavorful inside.
They offer an array of Vietnamese "tapas", 2 of which I ordered with some rice, Vietnamese homestyle. Squid with ginger sauce is tasty, but I find 5€ for 2 mini squids a bit hefty. The beef rolled in betel leaves is a bit dry, so I wouldn't recommend this. Their rice is also a little dry and not really fragrant.
The restaurant seems to have been renovated from a underground bar in the past, so it feels a bit dark and also not really accessible to people with mobility difficulties. However they do have seatings outside, which they don't set up sometimes. And even on a sunny day, the sun cannot reach that outdoor area, so if you want to enjoy the rare sunshine of Hamburg at this restaurant, it is...
Read moreUkitchen in Hamburg offers a decent dining experience, but it has some drawbacks that might not make it the first choice for everyone.
The restaurant is located in a souterrain space, which gives it a somewhat hidden and intimate feel. However, this also means it’s quite cramped, with limited space between tables. While some might find this cozy, others may feel it lacks the openness and comfort of a more spacious venue. The dim lighting adds to the atmosphere, but depending on personal preference, it can feel either warm and inviting or just a bit too enclosed.
The food itself is solid, with well-prepared dishes that showcase fresh ingredients. The menu offers a nice variety, catering to different tastes, and the flavors are well-balanced. While not necessarily groundbreaking, the quality of the dishes is consistently good. Service is friendly and efficient, adding to the welcoming atmosphere despite the spatial limitations.
One downside is the pricing of drinks. Cocktails, such as gin & tonic, are on the expensive side compared to similar restaurants in Hamburg. While the quality is good, the cost doesn’t always feel justified, especially given the casual setting.
Overall, Ukitchen is an okay choice if you’re in the area and looking for a meal in an intimate setting. However, the cramped space and high drink prices may make it less appealing compared to other options...

My husband took a dish of the day for 22 Euro. I just do not think that premix-salad from a pack is worth it. I took a Hue-Art risenoodle soup. It was sour, but I liked it and spiciness was on the perfect level for me (European spicy)
A waitress mixed up our order and brought alcoholic beer instead of non alcoholic. You might say that my accent is difficult to understand, but since my German husband ordered it with his perfect German with no accent and reconfirmed it a few times - we might take this from the equation. We haven’t drunk for 4 month due to some health issues. We did catch the mistake right on. We asked the waitress, but she confirmed again, that there was no alcohol. We had to ask another one and the manager to find that it was indeed alcoholic beer. I think it is a no-go for a restaurant.
PS if you have allergies, do not drink alcohol or do not eat something for whatever reasons - be specific here when ordering and check it at least 4 times ( three times didn’t...
