Soban Restaurant - Mannheim — Restaurant in Mannheim

Soban is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Center Mannheim with absolute tasty Korean cuisine. But sadly today I got disappointed by the service attitude and had no chance to give my feedback in the restaurant.

I got my seat around 20:40 and waited at least 15 minutes just to order. I understand the restaurant is often busy, so I waited patiently when they came and asked me to wait longer, twice! After waiting even longer, 2 of the servers came and told me there was no rice anymore and it was the reason why they kept me waiting… Soban could have told me earlier instead of wasting my time, so I could have gone to other restaurants before they closed since it was already late. And what was even worse, I didn’t receive any apology… I left with disappointment and feeling disrespected.

Before my evening was ruined, luckily there was a nearby ramen restaurant "Hikoo Noodles Kitchen" where the food was super delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant. The most important thing is that the owner is always polite, friendly and attentive to his customers ! That's what Soban could do much better. Terrible service every time I went there, the waiters are so rude. Once I went there with a bigger group of people, we were not allowed to move the chairs or tables in any way (they didn't even give us a reason they just said we weren't allowed to), after an hour of us being there the waiter told us we had to leave so other people can have the tables, although we had reserved the tables! Never before have I been treated this way in a restaurant. I will never go to Soban again and I don't recommend anyone else to do so either. However, when I went there with Korean friends (who spoke Korean with the employees) the service suddenly improved?!

Update 2022/23: Went to the new location, service is much better and very friendly and the food tastes very good as well. The new space also feels less crowded than the old one. It’s usually booked out so definitely reserve a table before you...

매운 음식 잘 드시는 분들은 506b 고기짬뽕 추천드려요 !!

Wenn man Scharfes vertragen kann, würde ich jedenfalls 506b mit Schweinefleisch empfehlen. - man kann dies auch mit Meeresfrüchten bestellen, aber meiner Meinung nach schmeckt es mit Fleisch besser.

Einige Hinweise für Anfänger

Wenn man Veganer ist, muss man darauf beachten, dass bei der Beilage Fischsoße drin ist. Also es gibt eine Sort von Kimchi mit Rettiche und zwar ist es rotfarbig. Da drin gibt's Fischsoße :)

Wenn man empfindlich auf glutenhaltige Sachen allergisch reagiert, wird es schwierig, hier etwas zu essen weil die Soßen, die beim Kochen benutzt werden Gluten beinhalten. Bzw. Sojasoße und Chillisoße.

Hier werden viele Optionen für Vegetarier angeboten.

Mit der Gerichte-Nummer 101 mit Reiskuchen gibt's Fischkuchen(oder Fischfrikadelle) drin allerdings kann man auch ohne diesen bestellen.

Mit Gerichte-Nummern 206 mit Schweinerippchen und 307 mit Hühnerfleisch hat man diese Auswahl. Man kann dieses normal(ohne Scharf, nur mit Sojasoße), mittelscharf und ganz scharf bestellen.

501,502,503 (Also Nudel mit Brühe und dazu Teigtaschen/Reiskuchen) kann man ,,mild" bestellen, wenn man möchte. Zudem kann man es auch als vegetarische Option auswählen. Soweit ich weiß, gibt's da drin dieses Fleisch aus Sojabohnen besteht.

die Gerichte-Nummer 306 mit Tintenfisch ist immer halt sehr scharf. Wie gesagt, es ist das schärfteste Gericht bei diesem Restaurant.

Beim Bibimbap-Essen hat man diese Soßenauswahl - Soja oder Chilli - Normalerweise werden diese Soßen nur mit Nummern 308 und 309 angeboten. Mit anderen Bibimbap-Gerichten von 310 bis 313 bekommt man separat gewürzte Fleisch/Tintenfisch/Thunfisch. Weil diese getrennte zubereitete Sachen schon gewürzt sind, kann man ohne Soße einfach alles mischen. Wenn man 308/309 bestellt hat, muss man mit Soße alles einfach mischen. Auf diese Weise isst man Bibimbap in Südkorea. Außerdem kann man dieses ohne Fleisch bestellen. Manchmal habe ich gesehen, dass manche Menschen dieses Gericht ohne Reis bestellen, aber.. meines Erachtens wird es sich nicht lohnen.

Momentan ist dieses koreanisches-paniertes-Chicken noch nicht bestellbar. Bedauerlicherweise muss man darauf noch mehr warten.

Als Getränke und zwar beim Bereich ,,Tee" sind Erstes und Zweites also ,,Sik Hae" und ,,Su-Jeong-Gwa" kalte Getränke und beides sind sehr süß. Zudem gibt's Reis in Sik Hae. Alle andere Tee sind warm.

Beim Einpacken werden Packdosen oder Boxes angeboten, damit man das übrige Essen selbst einpacken kann.

Bei der Zahlung ist es entweder mit Bar oder mit EC-Karte(wenn es auf der Karte Visa oder Master steht, dann geht das nicht mit unserer Maschine) möglich.

Weil es immer voll ist, ist eine vorherige Reservierung des Tisches immer...
