Anton Gschwendtner is the chef and brings out the dishes in the restaurant. He looks like he is cooking his heart out or as they say in Munich doing whatever your heart wishes in terms of Michelin star cooking. We went for 5 courses at 250 euro but feel like they gave us a lot more. The food is exquisite. My friend had the vegetarian menu, I had meat. Anton should win awards for incredible vegetarian cooking (which is usually in most restaurants considered a second class citizen). Those dishes mirrored the excellence of my meat dishes. One course I had included a small tube of pastry with steak tartar. I would not have chosen this on a menu but it melted in my mouth quite outstanding softness and favour. There are endless beautiful courses. All with some of the finest ingredients one could imagine. It really was a magnificent evening. It is pricey but worth every euro. Really you cannot imagine how your bill is not 1000 euro each. We opted not to have a wine pairing and chose wine from the menu. I paid 59 euro for a half bottle red (think montepulciano) but found it young and disappointing. Had much better at the Charles hotel the next day with a cheaper Chianti. Am now in switzerland and the cab franc again better than both for less money. So not sure whether the restaurant just has an expensive wine list just because it’s an expensive wine list without the calibre of a good selection am not sure. A person could say well you should have had the wine pairing but I’m not sure if I would have been disappointed (and very drunk). Anyway this should not put you off - it is one of the best food experiences I’ve had. On the atmosphere it was designed Belgian art dealer Axel Vervoordt. Did I like it? Not really but it is calming and seats comfortable. In fact I think it doesn’t feel artistic but the waiter explained it’s more about the feeling. So in that case I agree - we had a very enjoyable night. We did say hello to Anton. My friend liked her celeriac dish the best. It is fancy so you must expect to sit through the process. It’s not a quick evening. There is a 7 course option...
Read moreWe spent a truly wonderful evening here – just me, my partner, and my mother – diving headfirst into the full tasting menu at this exceptional restaurant. We went for two regular menus and one vegetarian, and each of us was genuinely thrilled.
Even the amuse-bouches coming out of the kitchen were a brilliant way to set the tone. The tiny bites, along with the white langoustine and cucumber, made for a beautiful opening act. Then came the courses – each one arriving with perfect timing and presentation.
One of my personal highlights was the crab grilled over Japanese binchotan charcoal – absolutely sensational in both technique and flavor. The jellied meat dish was outstanding, and the pasta course was an explosion of flavor, possibly one of the best I’ve had in recent memory.
As for the main course: the quail was so tender, it might just be the softest piece of meat I’ve ever tasted. Both the pre-dessert and dessert were stunning, the cheese selection was beautifully curated, and the petit fours brought it all home – a flawless finale to a truly dreamlike culinary journey.
Service throughout the night was discreet, attentive, and elegant. But the real star of the evening was the sommelier – an absolute master of his craft. His mix of expertise, humor, and presence made the wine experience just as memorable as the food. Every pairing felt like it had been chosen with surgical precision.
We’re deeply thankful for such an incredible evening – and the next time we’re in town, we’ll...
Read moreThis was my second visit to this restaurant.
The first time I sat in the small/private dinning area/the loft and preferred it because it felt more intimate. Due to Covid I suppose, we sat in the Garden for a 630pm setting. We finished our 7course meal at 10pm. So a nice evening.
I am not a fan of the stark interiors of the garden atrium. I like minimalist design done right and this felt like they didn’t really try. Just tables and chairs. This can be improved.
We had the same server we had previously 2 years ago showing that they have consistent staff which is important if you want consistent experiences. He did a nice job selecting a very nice German Pinot Noir. I thought all the staff did wonderful and was happy with the service (although I did have to remind them twice about replenishing the butter).
The food was a hit! Amazing flavors and just inventive. I was highly impressed with the complexity and variety of the dishes. At the beginning the pace was too fast but at the start of the second course, a good rhythm for the 7course extravaganza. Definitely Michelin quality. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Depends. It was a nice long evening with good wine, a beautiful woman, and an excellent meal. The staff and restaurant melted away.
2023 Update. I now come here every year during Oktoberfest. Still the best dining experience in all of Munich....
