I feel as if I need to clear out things as most comments are a bit misleading..
The chops are indeed very very good. The usual side dishes of the place, aka french fries, tzatziki, choriatiki are totally fine but nothing extraordinary. The service is terrible. I always go at times that there is almost noone else, and still many many times I have to become a clown trying to get the attention out of 1 waiter.
As such the main idea is: go for the chops, be patient and enjoy :)
A small tip in general, as I see it a lot in the comments: in general when you order bread the place will charge a small fee per head. If you don't want it, say it to them as I'm Greece in general the bread is like a must for all the Greek people. Similar for the water - if it's a closed bottle, but you don't want any feel free to tell them no, thank you and send it back. I don't say you are wrong, mostly mentioning it to help avoid bad...
Read moreAfter leaving the Accropolis, I walked for about a mile to To Steki Tou Ilia, only to find out they're only open for dinner, not lunch.
No matter, I returned to Thissio that evening for what is described as the best lamb chops in Athens. I can't say whether that is true or not, but they were the best I have ever eaten.
This is a joint that is serious about its ribs. You buy them by the kilo. Luckily, they had an individual diner portion that was about a third as much. I still brought back a sizable portion to my hotel.
The chops were charred on the outside but still tender inside. Served with a lemon wedge.
I accompanied it with bread and an eggplant dip and French fries. All were good.
The restaurant itself is located in an outdoor garden. The kitchen is located across a quiet street.
To Steki Tou Ilia was near the top of my restaurant list in Athens. I was very pleased with the meal I...
Read moreI really hate to leave a bad review for To Steki You Ilia, but I believe they have earned it. In the past, during the winter, we ate here and really enjoyed it. We even took friends back with us because we liked the place so well. However, eating here again on May 3, the service was just so horrible that we were very tempted to just walk out. Though the tables never completely filled up the entire time we were there as they had several with reserved cards on them, the two waiters were frantic. They purposefully would not meet your eye as they passed for fear you would ask for something. If you did get their attention, the best you could hope for was a passing "Yes, Yes, In a moment" and then to be avoided again. A very disappointing experience from a formerly great place. I only give the second star for previous experiences, this was a 1 star visit and we...
