Mixed Experience: Scenic Ambience, Lackluster Service, and Mediocre Food
My recent dining experience at Stork in Athens, Greece, was a bit of a mixed bag. While the ambience and views were truly spectacular, the slow and inattentive service, coupled with mediocre food, left much to be desired.
Let's start with the positives. The ambience of Stork is undoubtedly its standout feature. Situated in a prime location, the restaurant offers breathtaking views of the Acropolis that showcase the beauty of Athens. Whether you choose to dine indoors or on the terrace, you'll be treated to an awe-inspiring backdrop that enhances the overall dining experience. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, providing a pleasant setting for a meal. We asked to be seated on the Terrace.
Now, unfortunately, we come to the service. It was disappointing to find that the service at Stork fell short of expectations. Throughout the evening our waiter appeared inattentive and forgot our drinks order twice. We came around 8pm on a Friday so it wasn't busy. It took considerable time to get his attention, and even then, the wait between courses was far longer than desirable. He even disappeared at some point and we had to ask another waiter for our check. He indicated our own waiter had left for the night. A bit rude!
Moving on to the food, it was a letdown compared to the stunning setting. While the menu boasted a variety of options, the execution and flavor profiles left much to be desired. The flavors were ordinary, and the presentation was uninspiring. It's unfortunate that the cuisine didn't live up to the potential promised by the surroundings. The drinks/cocktails were pretty decent at least.
Despite the lackluster food and slow service, I must acknowledge that Stork still offered a memorable experience due to its magnificent views and pleasant ambience. It could be a great spot for enjoying a drink or taking in the scenery, especially during the sunset hours. However, if you're primarily seeking an outstanding culinary experience, you may want to explore other...
Read moreWe ordered a Coke Zero, and the staff served my daughter a regular Coke. She didn’t figure it out till it was too late. The bill even listed a Coke Zero, so it was simply inattentive service. This kind of mistake is dangerous for people with Type 1 Diabetes as it sends blood sugar skyrocketing. The manager was kind and did refund our drinks as an apology, which was a nice gesture, but the damage was already done. Not to mention that the waitstaff forgot one of our drinks. Again, very inattentive service as we were a party of 4, and they only served us 3 drinks. They never returned to check on us once or ask us if we wanted anything else. As we prepared to leave when we discovered what happened with the full sugar Coke, the waitress made a face and appeared extremely annoyed when we asked for the bill and corrected my English (You want to pay the bill? Do you mean the check?). When she returned, my husband offered to take the check, and she mockingly pretended to hand it back and forth to both of us, but not in a funny, jokey way. The venue and view are lovely, and this could be a great place for drinks, but the staff needs to do better. There are many other great rooftop choices in Athens - suggest you...
Read moreI was really disappointed. I think it's really overrated. The place aspires to an upscale restaurant, but it doesn't deliver. The food is just ok - out of 5 plates i only once thought "that's really good" and with some i was a bit disappointed with disbalanced flavors. The service is subpar. They practically brought all of the food all at once, so it was waiting on the table getting cold. The speed of serving was ridiculous. When needed, it was really difficult to get a waiter. They seemed to be more bothered with their own gossip, not looking at the guests. Even the simplest things, like making sure the water glasses don't stay dry for too long or checking in every now and then if we need anything, were not taken care of properly. Also, for a restaurant that promotes itself with Acropolis view, being offered a table where the whole view was blocked with a potted tree, sounds like a bad joke. I booked a month in advance. Quality/price ratio is generally pretty poor. The night before I've been to one of the restaurants from the Michelin Guide, paid roughly the same (~160 EUR for three people) and had way nicer culinary and service experience. The view doesn't save it for...
