After a day tour of the Acropolis we followed a website recommendation to “To Kati Allo” which is located right opposite the Acropolis Museum (hence very noticeable and easy to find). We went there at around 6pm and were the only ones there since it wasn’t the dinner time for most Greeks yet. We were thoroughly amazed and impressed by the quality Greek dishes served. The owner told us he only cooks certain dishes of certain portions a day and will close the restaurant once all sold out. Here you can find real genuine home-cooked GREEK dishes (not just western but real GREEK food). The owner also made an exception and gave us half a portion of some of the dishes so that we could try more food at the same price! How generous! Lastly, the place is simple but feels very relaxing and homely. Since we were the only ones dining at the time, the owner and his friends were playing their music (instrument & singing) in the Hall. It truly feels casual, comforting, carefree, and authentic. Overall genuinely good Greek food and reasonable price. Way better than the other street on the other side of The Acropolis Museum which is lined up with lots of restaurants touting tourists (when you are there you’ll know). Highly...

Hidden gem!

This is a perfect real traditional tavern serving fresh pre-cooked food in the traditional way of taverna's in small vilages all over Greece, so far from the tourist trap style you find in the area. This place could as well have been in a rural village on for example Evia . It is almost unbelievable to have found this place literally on the back side of the Acropolis museeum.

If you look for gyros or other tourist fare you might get disappointed but if you like good real authentic Greek taverna food you will be more than pleased. And the setting and furniture is authentic as well.

Staff is super friendly, no menus with pictures here, you will instead see the actual food presented on the open kitchen and choose what you want to eat from a few dishes prepared. No frozen pre made here.

Value is also beyond amazing, I told that the place was like a tavern in rural Greece, this is true for prices in all ! Payed 12.5E for a Greek sallad (with real feta), moussaka bread and wine , and the day before a beef stew for 8.5 incl wine and bread!

Hope I can go back here some day, can't recommend...

To Kati Allo – A Taste of True Greek Hospitality

If you're looking for authentic Greek cuisine that tastes just like home, To Kati Allo is the place to go. We visited while vacationing in Greece, and it was one of the absolute highlights of our trip. The meals were comforting, flavorful, and genuinely reminded me of my mother’s cooking—hearty, soulful, and made with love.

This is a family-owned and run gem, and it shows in every detail. The service was exceptional—warm, welcoming, and attentive. You feel like part of the family the moment you walk in.

The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. Through some online research, I found it listed among the top 12 restaurants in Athens—and now I completely understand why. It’s absolutely amazing.

Whether you're staying nearby or even a bit further out, it's worth the walk or drive. I highly recommend To Kati Allo and will definitely be returning next time I'm in Athens.

Tasso and family from Canada thank you for the...
