🥂 Come for Eleni, stay for the wine, and revisit for both. Whether visiting for 24 hours or an Athenian local, this is the Greek experience you’ve been looking for (we lived here 3 years and Eleni’s became our go-to). 📅 Book your private tasting via email in advance (our rec whether new or experienced wine enthusiast) or 🌸 enjoy wine outside in the garden in the on season (see calendar on website).
🧀🫒🥖 Eleni herself will be your sommelier for the evening, tailoring each pour to your specific tastes with cheese, bread, olive oil, meats, and chocolates to match. Truly a one-of-a-kind experience and uniquely Grecian, as she serves only Greek wines and will guide you through the tasting with a map of Greece so you can better understand the varietals (for beginners, this is the perfect intro and for more seasoned aficionados, Eleni can really geek out, no problem). €55 Tasting includes 6 (healthy) pours—you will be tipsy by the end, truly. But she offers a 4 glass tasting as well for €40 (personally, I would go with the 6–you only live once after all). And if there is a wine you really love, she will provide you with another glass, no problem.
And, if you ask, she will sell you any of the bottles you drink during the tasting. The prices are some of the best we have seen since moving to Greece (our favorite bottles were all €14-16, many of which you cannot find in a traditional wine shop, so we were thrilled!)
Truly a once in a lifetime experience getting to know wine through this remarkable woman’s eyes (Eleni was a professional actress hosting a popular Greek TV show before leaving it all behind to peruse her love of wine, writing for some of the country’s most prolific newspapers and magazines as a wine journalist).
We will be coming here with all of our friends and family who visit us in Athens. But we will also be inviting local Greek friends too because Wine with Eleni can be enjoyed by everyone and anyone who thinks they might like wine (and of course for those who already know they do).
PS There is a great classic greek taverna next door for a post-wine dinner. We recommend both the eggplant and the feta tomato appetizers, plus...
Read moreWe are no wine connoisseurs. We visited Greece, known also for its wineries, so we wanted to taste some. And Wine with Eleni was in a walkable distance from our stay.
The place feels like a hidden gem. The outside seating is enclosed by lush greenery which makes you feel like being in a private area. Pictures don't fully capture this.
We were lucky to find a free table, the place was packed. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helped us to pick a bottle from Florina which exactly matched our tastes. The menu didn't contain any vegetarian appetizers but we were served a personalized plate full of delicious cheeses, various breads, and heavenly red paprika-based chutney.
I also like that the place declares itself to be pet friendly and it does feel like it. A customer's dog taking a nap under a table, a cat or two chilling undisturbed on the pavement, a little oasis in the busy centre.
It was a perfect way to wrap up...
Read moreI visited Eleni's place in March 2022 for a wine tasting. There were five of us during the event, making it truly international experience (Polish, Portuguese and Greek). Eleni is an extremely hospitable owner that you will immediately get along with. She introduced us to the world of Greek wine that was accompanied with tastful appetisers from different regions of Greece. She told us the story of each bottle pointing at the regions it comes from. You could easily notice that Eleni is very passionate about wine and has a great expertise in the field. What is more we could also hear the story of her book and her wine research in a monk monastery. When Eleni's husband came over to see if everything was ok, we noticed that we lost track of time, chatting and exchanging our histories. I can really recommend Wine with Eleni and you should definitely step in, explore the world of Greek wine and get to know the story...
