Last month my wife and I were a little disappointed. After a few years, our expectations were either high or some things were indeed not right. I hope we will like Kouzina so much again next time we visit that we can forget this time... Well, our waiter was in an unnecessary hustle and bustle, which was almost not polite, despite the very few customers. He answered our questions so unwillingly and quickly that we felt compelled to ask the same questions. On the contrary, another waiter served our dishes and was very friendly... Every year we take some friends and every time we announce that one of the best food in Chania is definitely here in Kouzina. And the friends rightly found it exaggerated, as this time the dishes were also very mediocre. For the first time we left a plate (cuttlefish with olives) completely because it was so hard to chew. Otherwise, we said at the beginning that we didn't want to eat bread, but it was still on the bill that we simply paid because we didn't feel like talking about it. In the end, we got a Karafaki Tsikoudia again with the same hectic pace and therefore asked if we could order a dessert. The answer was just like this: No, unfortunately we don't have anything sweet. And then the waiter was gone again. So, almost every year I visit Kouzina because on the one hand I always liked it and on the other hand I always felt comfortable because the waiters were entertaining, friendly and nice. This time it was completely different. My wife told me that this is the first time she is leaving this restaurant unsatisfied and unhappy. I hope they keep the quality as it always has been. We'll definitely check it...
Read moreI can describe this restaurant located in the city center of Chania as a great homemade food restaurant. The restaurant, which is generally preferred by locals, has a very wide menu. While some dishes come out as standard every day, some are made exclusively for that day. Meals are served directly to your choice in the restaurant, which has an open kitchen. If you are a foreigner, they help by explaining the dishes we see in the pots to you. They also have a menu that you can find on your table for the dishes they prepare every day.
We liked the restaurant, which we went on recommendation on our first day in Chania and got acquainted with the Cretan cuisine. It was our only choice for lunch during our days in Chania. The restaurant, which you can see in the photos, has tables both inside and outside. The staff was always friendly, polite and professional. The prices were very reasonable and the portions were hearty. After each meal, they offered desserts that we didn't know what it was but that we loved to taste. Of course, there were also raki treats.
We liked every dish we ate, but our favorite dish was sauteed chestnuts, shallots and mushrooms, the name of which we can't remember. If you see it on the menu, be...

background some restaurants in Greece cook all the daily specials in the morning and you get to go into the kitchen and see them, this is that type or restaurant. On a personal note this is what I look for. It usually work out to be the best food ( usually = always).
As always everything come together. Had the zucchini flowers with rice and mince and a braised octopus dish. Following was the houses watermelon and Raki ( free). I'm in love with zucchini flowers, I have had them several time now and each time I am rewarded with really tasty food, this was no exception. Today like many other times I felt like octopus and yes I know it does not look great, but any time a try a daily special I am rewarded, again no expectation here.
Raki is a Greek grape sprite that is not very pleasant and always comes with something sweet. Raki is 40% to 50% Proof so it packs a punch. Great for a afternoon nap, which is what I feel like now.
If your in the area and looking for tasty authentic Greek food this is a good choice. Be prepared to wait if you come late but...
