After reading several great online reviews, we decided to give “Adespoto” a try, and it absolutely did not disappoint!
It’s located in the heart of chania old town, just 5 min away from where we were staying. If you are looking for a restaurant away from the chaos & crowds, this place is it.
This restaurant features live Greek music & one the musicians was also the owner, which made for a very homely ambiance. It is located in a secret garden that is not too big or small, but perfect to get a real taste of Greece. It is a very charming place that took my breath away, and was also the location of a movie that was filmed there in 2012!
The food selection was incredible serving awesome traditional Greek foods with daily specials that were even offered off the menu. We tried several appetizers and main courses and everything was just DELICIOUS!
We came to eat here at least 5 times during our stay as we just couldn’t get enough. I have to give it up to the ladies in the kitchen, you deserve recognition and an applause!!
The staff were extremely professional and very friendly taking the the time to meet and talk with us during all our visits. They made us feel welcome and appreciated. I have to say, they seemed very hard working & were simply amazing people that will always hold a special place in our hearts.
A very big thank you to everyone at “Adespoto” for making our vacation in Greece so memorable. We will definitely be...
Read moreAlthough we were initially impressed with the atmosphere of the place (as well as its "non-touristic" feel), we were more than a bit disappointed with the quality of the food. Among the things we ordered were the kebap, the fried potato skins and the chicken souvlaki. Now, it was rush hour (Saturday night) and everyone was busy, but that doesn't mean that we should have been given raw kebap to eat! It should have been checked before leaving the kitchen. It was nice of a waiter to offer to make another but we didn't take him up on that offer.
We were excited to order the oregano potato skins, until we were given a plate with fries hidden under three or four potato skins! This felt like a single potato was peeled, chopped, and fried, skin and all, instead of just having skin chips.
The souvlaki wasn't bad but still felt a bit undercooked in the center.
We liked the saganaki and the myzithra. Just wished more care was given to the rest of the food too.
All in all, I don't recommend the place during rush hours. Note that I'm Greek and I have eaten all of those things (cooked...
Read moreIt was my first day in Chania and I was just wandering, following my traveling nose, looking for lunch. I wandered down Sifaka to get away from the heaviest tourist area and I passed a couple of interesting options, but I decided to keep going. I almost passed this place too, but something about it grabbed me enough that I stopped, backed up and looked deeper inside. It's just lovely, like a hidden garden. I decided to go in, and I'm SO glad I did.
Aside of being an exquisitely charming setting, my host took excellent care of me and the food made me stop and close my eyes with its deliciousness. It was so good I came back the next day as well and it was an even better experience than before! My only regret was that I didn't make it out for their live music. That must be magical.
If I make it back to Chania at some point, this is my go-to place. You...
