Authentico Ice Cream Shop — Restaurant in Municipality of Chania

The best ice cream in Chania in my opinion. Tried most of the ice cream shops in the old town and they are just tourist traps - crazy colours and flavours that I think appeal to children (who wants to eat blue ice cream?). Apart from looking fake, these ice creams lack flavour - sweet and creamy but with no real flavour. Then I discovered Authentico and have visited 4 times since. The servings are generous, the consistency is rich and creamy, but most importantly each flavour tastes like it should instead of just some sweet confection. Often you will find chunks of something delicious in each flavour, for example the yoghurt, honey and walnut has actual walnuts inside - as you would expect. Pomegranate and pistachio delicious with pomegranate inside. Brownie with yes, you guessed it, chunks of brownie. This ice cream shop deserves to be much more busy than they are and I think it is because it is not located in the main tourist thoroughfare of the old town but on the outskirts. It is definitely well worth seeking it out. The advantage is you don’t have to form a line and wait your turn, the lovely ladies are almost always ready to serve you. The person who owns this business understands quality ice cream and the pleasure of eating it. It is very apparent from the balance of crowd pleasing standard flavours and the lesser known creative ones that you won’t find elsewhere. They deserve all the success and more for bringing a level of maturity and sophistication to the Chania ice...

I ordered a double scoop cup. The ice cream tasted fine however the portion was not as healthy as I thought it would be. I also ordered a yoghurt nuts and honey smoothie. First of all they don’t have pineapple and mangoes so my smoothie consisted mainly of banana, peach, kiwi, yoghurt, nuts and honey. They did not add any ice so it was thick and hot. I should have guessed this would be horrible because the girls were reading the instructions the whole way through. Maybe this was the first time someone ordered this but that isn’t an excuse. I would go again but only...

Ice cream was good but the service was not.

Our family of four visited the shop on a hot afternoon. The shop was empty. The lady behind the counter was annoyed at tastings and capped the entire family at 3 tastings (not per person, but for the entire family!), so one of us didn’t get an ice cream.

She seemed generally annoyed and unable to understand us.
