We visited this restaurant for dinner, looking forward to a nice evening with family. What we got instead was one of the most disappointing and disrespectful experiences we’ve ever had.
Let’s start with the food. It was honestly disgusting. Bland, poorly cooked, and clearly made with no care or quality. We didn’t even complain, just quietly accepted it and moved on, thinking, “Alright, not every place gets it right.”
Since we were sitting outside in a quiet corner with our family, we decided to relax for a bit after the meal and play a calm game of cards. We weren’t being loud, we weren’t disturbing anyone, and we were absolutely not taking up space needed by others. It had barely been 15 minutes.
And then, completely out of nowhere a waiter came over and rudely told us we had to leave. No tact, no respect, no understanding. Just a blunt, borderline aggressive attitude that made us feel like we were a nuisance rather than paying customers. We calmly pointed out that we weren’t doing anything wrong, but they clearly didn’t care.
It was honestly shocking. The behavior of the staff was not just unprofessional. I was flat out disrespectful. No hospitality, no basic manners, no understanding of how to treat people. It felt like they were more concerned with controlling their customers than actually making them feel welcome.
We left without causing a scene, but it left a really sour taste far worse than the food. This place may have good reviews, but don’t be fooled. Behind the fake charm is a staff that lacks training, decency, and any idea of what good service looks like. A total letdown. We will...
Read moreI’ve been to Senal 6 times during my stay in Chania this year. It is hands down not only the best restaurant I’ve been to in Crete, but one of the best I’ve been to anywhere in the world. The food is all amazing, the lobster and shrimp pasta is one of my favorite dishes ever. The seafood was always so fresh and you can tell a lot of time and effort goes into curating the menu. Giannis even went out and sourced us specific bottles of wine on multiple occasions. Not only is the food the best, but the thing that stood out the most to us was the service we received - which was also the best I’ve received anywhere before. Special shoutout to the managers Giannis and George, as well as the waiter George. These three provided us with an amazing experience every time we dined here and would always go out of their way to make sure we had the best food, drinks and service. They created such a welcoming atmosphere that even when we weren’t dining there and just walking past, they would always come out to say hi and ask how we were. Senal also has a great atmosphere and the vibe is always so good…especially once the cocktails start to flow. This will be the first place I go next time...
