We were in Heraklion for a night, having arrived from Santorini. Checked into the Dom Boutique Hotel in the city center and googled dinner options in the area. Landed on Amalia’s Kitchen a straight shot across the hotel by the city center park. The reviews of the restaurant were stellar, so we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to see an art map of Houston, Texas, USA on the back wall - turned out, Amalia and her husband lived in Houston and she had a Mexican restaurant of the same name there for 30 years! Who knew we would get that close to home even while being a continent away! We were immediately welcomed and seated outdoors under the street patio overlooking the park. A nice spot, but one that gets uncomfortably humid as the meal wears on. We ordered Hummus Revithia, which came with wonderfully warm wedges of pita bread, and Dakos - a lovely Cretan Bruschetta with crumbly local Feta on top - both were delicious! We ordered Beef Bifteki, Mushroom Risotto, and butterflied and grilled Bream for mains, with a couple of Pomegranate cocktails. The appetizers and mains arrived promptly. The food was simply divine! Flavorful, succulent meats, extremely tasty rice and veggies, and crispy wedge fries to die for! The best meal in our 12 days in Greece. Dessert consisted of Galaktoboureko - Greek custard-filled Phyllo pastry served with local ice cream. The restaurant surprised us with local Flan on the house, followed by complimentary Cretan Raki! What a treat! We literally had to be wheeled out of the restaurant - we were in food heaven! A gem of a place run by very friendly locals - service was superb with very attentive and friendly waiters anticipating every need. All of this wonderful food only set us back EU 76, which even with a 20% tip, was extremely affordable, given the quantity and quality on offer. Give the place a try; you won’t be...

Perfect restaurant option for Coeliacs in Heraklion From my first contact with the staff at Amalia’s Kitchen my stress level reduced - I was in capable hands and could relax and enjoy a Gluten Free meal. The wait staff and kitchen staff are friendly and knowledgeable and experienced in preparing meals for Coeliacs (or any other dietary restriction). Upon showing my Coeliac information card the owner guided me through the menu to ensure I had sufficient options. Questions were asked and responded to professionally and a great choice of meals were available. I went with a Lamb Souvlaki Plate with Feta Salad & Tzatziki starter which was a taste sensation - beautifully balanced and very fresh. For main course I went with the Leandros Chicken with Mizithra Cheese & Sun Dried Tomatoes which was delicious to the last bite. I became a huge fan of the Mizithra cheese while in Greece :). I also ordered a large serve of thick cut chips due to the use of a dedicated Gluten Free fryer - delightful. A complimentary dessert of Almond Puree and Raki was provided - the perfect ending for my sweet tooth. The wine list contained an extensive range of local and international options. I went with there House Wine and was not disappointed. The perfect stop for a Coeliac seeking a stress-free, delicious and safe gluten-free meal...

We found this place on tripadvisor, searching for a small, quiet and cheap place close to the centre of iraklion. I must say, it was ways better than expected. The restaurant is located on a small and quiet side street, right next to a small park. It looks very clean and inviting. We were welcomed by very friendly staff, good English, very helpful with our little son. The menu is just perfect, not too much but enough choice for everyone. We got some tacos with homemade salsa as a starter for free. We ordered 3 different dishes, all came fresh made at the same time. All of us where totally satisfied and happy with the food. It tastes delicious, good portion even for a hungry man. Then we got another surprise from the kitchen: a small dessert for free. Also freshly made and very tasty. At the end there was a home made raki fir all adults, excellent as well. The last surprise was the bill, cause it was much cheaper than we expected. 38,50 for 3p incl. drinks. We had burger, souvlaki and pastillio.

Last speech cut short: We highly recommend this restaurant as a very clean, family friendly, delicious and relaxing restaurant for everyone, who visits iraklion. Good food, clean restaurant including toilets, very funny and friendly staff and a quiet...

Let me just say from the start how amazing this visit was. When i searched for a place to eat in heraklion a found this little beauty on tripadvisor, after reading some reviews on tripadvisor i knew this was the place to eat for me and my family. When we reached the restaurant we were warmly greated by the people of Amalia's kitchen. As we sat down we got some tortilla chips from the house with salsa. For drinks i can say go for the frozen amalia rita's (frozen Margherita's) they are the bomb. My wife ordered the homemade sangria and this was delightful as well, on the side de got some refreshing water that was also on the house. For lunch i ordered the beef fajitas, my kid the chicken nuggets with fries and my wife the Amalia's salade. All were quickly served with good service and were nicely presented. All meals were more then enough as a meal. After finishing we all got still a dessert and a Raki (the Greek Raki not the Turkish one, theh are diffrent in flavour) on the side that was home brewed. All that for a real sharp price. For the good service and the delightful meal, they deserved a good tip. TL;DR: The drinks, the food and the service were all great from beginning to end. A good place to go eat in heraklion.
