Marathos — Restaurant in Municipality of Thessaloniki

I can't remember a time when I didn't tip somewhere. Here it happened. Of all the Greek tavernas visited (many) unfortunately the worst experience.

5 things:

Outside you are diligently approached by a man that you should eat there. (With us, unfortunately, he was not there for a short time, otherwise we would never have gone in).

Water not ordered by us is brought and opened without being asked, poured so that you pay for it.

Exactly the same with bread. Not ordered, but received, cold, billed per person on the bill.

My request that the food comes at the same time (meze and meat) was commented listlessly with "I will try my best". Meze came after 2(!)min, meat after 25min. Upon my request after 20min, why it does not come at the same time, answer: „sometimes it is difficult to coordinate“. No apology, not another word. Thanks for nothing.

No one inquires how the food tastes, whether everything is satisfied. Not a kind word to the customer. Listless work, staff prefer to hang on their cell phones in the meantime.

Food was okay. Not good, not very good. Okay. One star for this (I can not give less).

They profit from the good location and that the customer (tourists) will not come...

We were walking in the square with my fiancee and decided to visit the tavern. They welcomed us politely. They seated us at a table and took our order (Draft beer, Mussels - saganaki, Fried calamari and Fried potatoes with feta). So far so good, next is the serving of draft beer - they took out a half-empty beer glass from a refrigerator, poured some beer and that's it. They brought us Steamed Mussels even though we had ordered Saganaki. We tried to explain this to the waiter and he politely told us to wait. Then an old bald man who behaved terribly rudely (talking in a loud voice) came and asked us do you want these clams or not?!, despite the terribly rude behavior we decided to accept them, But he took them and left , with aggressive behavior. Anyway, we decided to try the calamari and potatoes - they were terrible, the calamari tough and tasteless and the potatoes - no feta and cold. I would not recommend this place to friends and we would never sit down to eat here again when we are in Thessaloniki. Terrible attitude from the elderly, bald waiter and the worst food we have...

I do not usually write reviews, but i was really angry in this place. We arrived in Thessaloniki late, tired and the lady on the counter of the restaurant encouraged us to have a sit. We were after two weeks of travelling in Greece, very often in many taverns and restaurants we have been ordering few things to try. People were always really nice and hospitable and we never got any comment that we should order more. Here not. We got some sideeyeing since the first moment for ordering just squid and wine. If it is not ok to order just that it would be nice to hear it. The guys working in the restaurant were not nice and at the end they charged us additionally for water and bread we did not order. We underlined that it was a mistake and we didn't get any bread nor water (we knew from many many other places where we were asked if we want to order it). There was not event sorry nor explanation but just a little bit more of angry from the crew. The portion of squid was small and rather bad at taste but at least not very expensive. Awful end of greek travel. Seems to us touristic and...
