The views are gorgeous, the rooftop is chill, it’s well cared for and very clean. There’s an inside/outside living feel that is really really nice. The staff at reception are amazing, kind and go the extra mile to help. They really are incredible and will do anything to assist you! Showers are excellent and hot and WiFi is very good!
But it’s also weird. There’s a 25Q charge to leave your luggage with them after check out and a 50Q charge to stay and hang out in the hostel after check out (in total it amounts to more than half the cost of one night’s stay). Money wasted aside, it gives a deep feeling that the hostel is ungenerous, advantageous and not welcoming. You are warned about it before your arrival, which does also instantly sour the taste of the hostel before you’ve even stepped through the door.
There’s more strangeness - no locks on any dorm doors, but also no lockers to keep your bags in (apart from a tiny, passport sized locker). There’s no kitchen or even use of a fridge (though signs are hung up on bedroom doors detailing how to use the kitchen appropriately). A passport or driving license is required as deposit for a towel, rather than the standard cash deposit. The hostel only accepts cash, for everything including for your stay there.
I think they need to rethink some of the details listed above in order to create a better vibe! The staff and the building are both amazing - but it’s really let down by some...
Read moreThis was the best place we’ve stayed at in our 4 weeks travelling Central America. We messaged them direct (WhatsApp) for better prices and availability that wasn’t on HostelWorld. There’s a 24h Reception, secure entry and a really good atmosphere. The showers are hot, the facilities are really clean and theres a full kitchen (with hobs, kettles and microwaves).
The location on this side of the island is perfect if you’re after views and less traffic. It’s also the side where most of the restaurants are. The water taxi to Jeorges Rope Swing is viewable from the rooftop terrace (would highly recommend!).
The reception staff are really knowledgeable and are more than happy to give you an idea of “the locals price” for tours if you’re looking to negotiate with the water taxis / tour companies for excursions.
The balcony bar is open every night for the hostel guests, and can’t be heard from the rooms. This is not a “party hostel” per se. Think; ‘coronas at sunset while looking over the lake’, not ‘tequila shots until you’re disorientated’. (Try Los Amigos Hostel if that’s what your looking for 👍)
There’s also a very social hostel cat :)
Overall, we would highly recommend this place. Enjoy 🤙
