Its true that it WAS one of the best restaurants in flores, they do service better, and the food is indeed better, but not as if there was an actual competent chef who knows what he's doing. It's not enough to call it Gourmet, you have to MAKE it Gourmet. They were nice enough to not charge me for the disgusting ribs I ordered, but they seemed to assume I was lying to avoid paying. As soon as I paid my order, they asked me if I "planned to stay longer"... I barely stayed an hour. The truth is I lOve ribs, so I expected more from this pricey place, I expected them to be able to cook this simple dish well, but the meat was dry, the sauce was way too sweet, same sauce they use in every comedor, lacking vinegar, and they added fake smoke, which made the whole plate quite disgusting. I tried to eat, and not complain, but was unable to eat. I've lived in Guatemala for almost 10 years, and I am TIRED of paying big money to be served shitty food, badly made, or overcooked. It might not be obvious to most travelers, but WE the FRENCH have a great cuisine, we know how to cook, and WE KNOW what QUALITY tastes like...
UPDATE: I am eating the cheese croquetas. A ball of flour and something cheezy, but no cheese taste at all. Its akin to a "fondue parmesan", but they use cheap local mozzarella, typically no taste. If you're going to serve this, use better quality cheese for texture, so you won't need to add all that flour to thicken the whole thing. And cheese that tastes something! Or at least season with a bit of nutmeg, tequila, and fresh pepper... I feel like I am eating GLUE.
The problem is not that "you didn't live up to my expectations." You're basically saying that the problem is my expectations, a tactic to avoid taking responsibility for your very typical chapin scam. The problem is that you POSE AS A GOURMET PLACE, but SERVE BADLY MADE FOOD that is FAR from being good enough to be OVERPRICED. It was a bad decision to fire the team you had in Flores, they know how to cook...
Read moreI was told about this place by a friend, and my experience was beyond excellent. It started with the quick and free boat ride from the restaurant in the island side to the Raíces del Lago restaurant. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted and sat down by the dock. The level of detail that was put into every decoration in the entire place was very well thought out so guest would have a great experience. The music was at a good conversational level, even while being one booth away. The food was also excellent, for the appetizers to the deserts. Over all, not only did we have a great time but was very impressed over all with our experience. This is a place that truly cares about the details and it shows. As far as price goes, if you are looking for a cheap place to eat, this is not it. But if you are looking a great dinning experience this is the place for you. I would like to thank Efrain and the rest of the staff who helped to make this vacationing experience a memorable one. I never write reviews, but this place truly deserves one because they do...
