This location is bad. The menu says one combos to-go include a drink but the manager, Marvin, insists otherwise. It shows a drawing of 1L bottle of Pepsi to-go but he is that is only in-house dining receive drinks with combos. Ironic considering in-house sit down receive fountain drinks and not to-go bottles like the menu illustrates. The other Antigua location near the bus terminal does include drinks with combos. Specifically, a 12 piece combo is also supposed to receive 3 orders of coleslaw, he insisted this too was a mistake. He said the printed menu he gave me to choose from at the to-go window was wrong and then instructed to select from the television screen which is slow to change screens. The screen also every combo with drink included to which he insisted was also a mistake. I told him I’d always received the included drink at the other location, to which he shrugged and just said there are different rules and menus for sit-down versus carry-out. I asked if there is a third menu for foreigners or tourists that could alleviate the confusion and illustrate the corporate policy more clearly. This entire conversation took place in Spanish. A lot of the time here in Guatemala I encountered feigned incompetence in an effort at petty extortion. It’s often why I seek out consistency from a corporate entity. Pollo Campero lacks this consistency. If I ever return, it won’t be to...
Read morePollo Campero is one of those names you hear everywhere in Guatemala, but trying it on Calle del Arco in Antigua really showed us why it’s so beloved. Simply put—the fried chicken here is perfect. Crispy, golden, and seasoned just right, it manages to be flavorful without ever feeling greasy or heavy. The crunch is addictive, and the meat stays tender and juicy with every bite.
We stopped in after walking along Calle del Arco, and the location couldn’t be more convenient. The restaurant itself is clean, comfortable, and offers a lively energy with both locals and travelers stopping in. Service was quick and friendly, making it easy to enjoy a satisfying meal without a long wait.
We ordered a mix of fried chicken pieces with sides, and everything tasted fresh and made with care. Even something as simple as the fries hit the spot—crispy and hot, perfect for dipping. The portion sizes were generous, offering great value for the price.
For anyone visiting Antigua, this spot is more than just a chain—it’s part of the cultural experience. If you want comfort food that delivers every time, Pollo Campero on Calle del Arco is absolutely...
Read moreBasically, this place is like KFC, but not quite as tasty, and with a plate, knife and fork. The chicken is good, and the crispy coating is indeed crispy. There's a choice of three coatings. The coating has no particularly strong flavouring, which isn't a bad thing. The fries are pretty good, and not too salty. The coleslaw could be improved and was a little water, especially at the end. The disappointing thing for me, was that they make it difficult to buy just chicken and chips. Pieces of chicken are expensive on their own, I think it was 15 Quetzals for each piece and they don't even have it on their menu. I had to ask the waitress. I didn't want a drink or bread roll, but it works out cheaper to buy their meal deals. Other than that, it was a reasonable meal, although not particularly cheap, at 60 Quetzals, for three pieces of...
