This evening, while walking, we happened to pass by this Lebanese restaurant, beautifully located overlooking the Danube. We were amazed by how beautiful and meticulously designed it was, down to every detail. Even the outdoor area is extremely well-maintained and elegant, with beautiful, high-quality furnishings. We weren't going for dinner, but rather to check out the nearby food truck festival. I stopped, remembering the excellent Lebanese cuisine, and said, "THE RESTAURANT IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND INVITING, WHY DON'T WE STOP FOR DINNER?" And so we did. We were immediately greeted with great kindness and professionalism by the staff, especially Mr. Salem, who, despite the fact that we didn't have a reservation and there were already many customers and tables booked, arranged for us to sit at a beautiful table with an amazing view on the terrace. Mr. Salem welcomed us, looked after us, and helped us order with great patience and kindness, explaining the various Lebanese dishes available (which, unfortunately, I don't know much about). We were both extremely satisfied with the dishes we chose: "Oriental rice with lamb" for me and "Grilled marinated whole seabass" for my partner. As I had told Mr. Salem at the beginning, Lebanese cuisine is renowned worldwide for its exquisiteness, but as I later told him while we were savoring our delicious dishes, "I WAS WRONG: THESE LEBANESE DISHES YOU SERVED US ARE NOT GOOD, BUT MUCH MUCH BETTER, SUBLIME!!" We then tried two Lebanese desserts: "Ghazilyeh" for me and "Om Ali" for my partner, and what can I say: I've never tasted anything like it in my life!!!! And being Italian and accustomed to excellent food, that's quite an accomplishment!!! A wonderful surprise to discover this "gem" of a restaurant in Budapest, which tonight tops my list of favorite restaurants in the city. But a special applause and huge thank you to Mr. Salem, who, as I mentioned above, was incredibly kind and professional, taking impeccable care of us from start to finish! Thank you, Mr. Salem, and thank you, Baalbek - Lebanese Restaurant. We'll definitely be seeing you again very soon, and...
Read moreMost spectacular Lebanese restaurant!
This restaurant is right on the Danube Walking distance to the cruise ships. Also at a reasonable distance from the number two tram. The restaurant is gorgeous. Very upscale looking But not terribly expensive. My brother-in-law said that it was worth going to the restaurant just to walk through and up to the rest rooms.
We ate outside but every table in and out of the restaurant has wonderful ambience.
You know the food will be fabulous when more than half the patrons appear to be of Middle Eastern descent. My husband had the lamb kebab and I had the Fattet Shrimp which I had never heard of before. It is a layered dish of very crispy fried Lebanese bread strips under melt in your mouth eggplant cubes topped with yogurt and a red spice which I think might be like paprika and garlic. The marinated and grilled shrimp were on top. It was spectacular. This was supposed to be a late lunch in anticipation of a later dinner at another restaurant, but I would’ve been happy if this was my evening meal. There are many specialties on the menu. There are also several types of lemonade available, including a rose elderberry and a mint lemonade. They were so refreshing!
The pace was relaxed, and we never felt pressured to give up our perfect spot overlooking the Danube, the shops and the passersby All of the staff were kind and pleasant.
We happen to love Middle Eastern food, and have had it in other locals while on vacation, including Amsterdam, Bruges, Vienna and Prague enjoyed every single one, but nothing compares to this restaurant.
I wish we could stay in Budapest much longer so that we could enjoy this restaurant again. Do yourself a favor and...
Read moreWe are on holiday from Australia. We have strong Hungarian heritage, but after nearly 3 weeks of fried food and potato being the main source of vegetable in our diet, we were yearning for something different. We ended up in this place by accident, and I'm sure we will be back again. The waiters were courteous and well-spoken in many languages. Vanda was an absolute delight, and so was our first waiter. Unfortunately, I forgot his name, but I remember he was from Syria. We ordered a few pre-dinner drinks and a cocktail. They were tasty and generous. I ordered a beer, and unfortunately, just like in many other places, it was much warmer than I was expecting. This was the only negative I can recall. We ordered a spread of 7 different "entre" meze dishes. The food arrived soon and we realised that we should have invited a few more people. The amount of food should have been easily enough for four adults. We did our best but still had to ask to take the leftovers home. I don't usually do, but the food was so exeptional that it would have been a shame to waste it. It was some, if not the best, food I had in the country. Price wise, it was within international norms. Nowhere near as bad as Gerbeaud and way better food than in Jamies Italian. We spent more than average, and that was our fault for ordering so much food. But it was WORTH IT. My only regret was that I couldn't try the desserts. They looked very interesting. Thank you for the...
