Worst sushi I've ever had in my life!! It was almost hilarious. It was as if a child tried to make sushi, using cheap sauces from the fridge, along with canned-tuna to top the rolls.
We got no wasabi and had to ask for it. We didn't get our own plates, which means that we had to use our soy sauce bowls as "plates" to prevent the soy from dropping down on the table. On the tables there are greasy flat menu cards that you have to look at while eating (and supposedly use as plates?)
Not a single Asian sushi chef in the restaurant - this tells you that these people are trying hard on profiting on something they don't do well, which is quite unrespectful to the sushi tradition.
This restaurant gains 1 star because the service was fine. But it's a dark mark on our Budapest trip.
Wow.. just wow... Please trust me and DON'T eat here! I'm sorry for people who will get the same disappointment as we did. Also, I really don't understand why this restaurant has such a high rating.. and it's even quite expensive compared to Budapest prices other places.
And they DO charge an automatic 10% tip in the price. A guy wrote here on Google that they charged 12%, and luckily for Bamboo Grove, they could reply back that they 'never (ever) charge 12% (because the truth is they...
Read moreI've had so many great experiences it's difficult to decide where to start. First of all the place is nice and charming. It's in the middle of the city, really easy to stumble across it while visiting the most important places on the Pest side. And this is one of those locations. Absolutely a must if you want to have a nice time. The ambience is cozy and the light backgound music fills the place with life. The staff elevates the friendly enviroment. You can always count on them that they will give you the maximum. If you have a special request they will do their best to fulfill it. You can ask anything about the food or the drinks they will know the answer. You can see that they care about you, even after you have paid. And the food is just excellent. The variety of sushi is astounding, but you can always get some help to choose. You can see how skilled and experienced the chefs are. They really take sushi seriously and regard it like a form of art. But there is far more than just sushi. They have noodles, gyoza, tempura, salads and many other things that the japanese gastronomy offers. They have many vegetarian dishes as well and you can find gluten free and lactose free meals too. Overall you can have a great time here...
Read moreSushis are a bit above average (the sushi rice is missing some seasoning for my taste). Regarding the service, they add 12% to all prices for service, which is now common practice. The waitress was vocally mentioning that we can add tip on top of that on the terminal. I was quite puzzled and asked about the 12% service fees and the answer was that this does not go to the staff. She seemed to be annoyed when I told her that I'm not tipping on top of the service fees. I understand that she is annoyed, but I fail to see how this should be the customer's concern if the owner is too greedy and keeps the service fees for himself (I'm curious about what is the shoddy excuse behind this). I saw the owner answering in some comment that this is common practice downtown. I've been in Budapest for years now and this is the first time I've ever seen this. I find this really outrageous and I will never come back to such a place, especially knowing that there are better sushi places...
