Gaby’s — Restaurant in Budapest

Mixed feelings. Went to pick up Thanksgiving food. The place was packed which seemed promising. But it was quite chaotic. We went to pick up our food at 7PM which I had previously messaged them about and they confirmed it multiple times. But we still had to wait about 40 minutes to actually get our food. When a waiter came out with it in boxes, he just put them down and said we ran out of bags, sorry. The owner seeing this did realize how ridiculous this looked and went away with the boxes of foods and brought them back in a trash bag - but at least they were in something, so that was appreciated. I was also told over messages that this meal included drinks even when doing takeaway. We got no drinks until asking about it. Then when the food came out, we thought they were inside the bag, honestly didn’t consider they wouldn’t be there. Once exiting and after a few mins did we notice we had no drinks so we went back. The owner was readily asking the bartenders to make us new drinks, again appreciated. But our drinks had no lids… and when I asked the bartender if we could get a couple he just said with the deadliest eyes “no”. As we went there by car, and it was extremely cold outside, it was super inconvenient to walk back to our car with icy lemonades and drink at least half of them before starting our ride again so they don’t spill all over the car. I would have appreciated the owner to hand us covered drinks since it was a takeaway on a very cold evening. The food itself was okay, nothing special really. The waitering staff is absolutely amazing, they are all very attentive and helpful in every way they can be. If it wasn’t for the fact that the manager is very annoyed i would’ve gave this place 5 stars. Whe I first entered the I met the manager, she was a total jerk! Very aggressive and rude! The manager clearly has some issues with control, she has this horrible music on and when I asked to change it or make it lower, she literally yelled “This is our music, take it or leave it”?!? What a horrible way to treat a customer? Also the music is like INSTANT club music! I am going to a cafe/restaurant not the club! I don’t understand what’s the big deal with just being able to take a request. When I asked other customers they were also bothered by the music. I don’t understand how a manager can see a customer visibly upset with something and then not even acknowledge and make it worse by being an absolute jerk, when it can be absolutely solved. Great place to chill, have a drink, gather with friends or even work a little bit since they have a cozy first floor. But don't believe the hype about being a sort of American cuisine in Budapest. Far from it. Many people think that all you gotta do is offer eggs'n bacon and some ribs and there you go, American food! Hehehe. Don't take me wrong, the food at Gaby's is very good, but it is pricey for what they offer. The ribs are not even a half rack, you'll get a third of a rack and it's so much different from any ribs in North America (if you're into ribs, of course). It is good, mind you, but just regular good. Not enough for what they charge. The salads are also just regular good and couldn't be further away from North American cuisine.
