I’ve been to Hachi several times before and absolutely love their tantan udon — it’s one of my favorite dishes in Budapest, and I always recommend it to friends.
This time, I decided to try something new and ordered the tantanmen ramen, but unfortunately, it was a really disappointing experience. The broth was extremely oily — to the point that it felt like I was eating a bowl of oil rather than ramen. I actually started feeling unwell and, for the first time ever, had to send a dish back (which I never do). The staff were kind and offered to replace it, which I really appreciated, though I also overheard someone saying “isn’t it supposed to be like that?”
As someone who’s traveled a lot and is relatively well-versed in Asian cuisine, I wanted to share this as constructive feedback, not criticism. Tantanmen ramen can vary depending on where you are — in Japan, across Europe, anywhere — but it generally has a rich, slightly spicy, sesame-based broth with a bit of chili oil on top for flavor. It should be balanced, creamy, and flavorful, not greasy or heavy in oil.
It might’ve just been an off day or a kitchen slip, but I wanted to mention it because I genuinely love this place and hope it was just a one-time thing. I’ll definitely be back for the tantan udon soon — it’s...
Read moreI had a dinner here with a friend and the place itself is very pretty, at first the service was great, we were seated promptly and handed a little stool for our bags. However after we got our food (which was great) we noticed that there were ants coming from the table that we were seated at, we told one of the hosts and he sort of dismissed the fact and flicked some of the ants off the table and left which took us by surprise since we were being very nice about it considering there shouldn’t be any sort of insects on the table. We kind of learnt to deal with it since it wasn’t really taken care of, then the owner came and he said that they had just received these tables and are fairly new and that maybe they were coming from inside the cracks of the wood, again, we kept getting excuses but no apologies or any sort of compensation for the uncomfortable situation. While I understand the place is very new, they still have a lot to figure out and further develop, I do believe that it has no correlation with the customer service we received. It could have been handled a bit more professionally on their side. Overall the place is very beautiful the design, the food is as well, but this tiny issue should be fixed so that other people don’t...
Read moreThe place itself is great – really nice atmosphere, good music, and the food was delicious. The waiter in charge of the bill was kind enough to let us pay separately, which was cool. Unfortunately, the experience was spoiled by a problem with the check.
We were a group of 7, and 5 of us ordered Katsudon. By the time it was my turn to pay (I was the last one), the waiter suddenly said there was a missing Katsudon. At first he said it was my mistake, then after him recalculating with his phone, he insisted I needed to cover it.
Since we had booked in advance and this was a special meeting with friends visiting from out of town, we didn’t want to ruin the evening arguing, so we reluctantly paid for “that extra” dish. Unfortunately, the table had already been cleared, so we couldn’t double-check (the receipts we put on the table)on the spot. Later(after leaving the place) when we did the math, it was clear: we had indeed been charged for one extra Katsudon.
It was very frustrating. I’ve been here before and had good experiences, but this left a sour taste. Great food and vibe, but being charged for an extra dish we didn’t order is...
