We were seated and given menus, but after that, no one came back to our table. I had to flag down a waiter just to place our order. I asked for drinks, an appetizer, and both main dishes all at once. The drinks and antipasti arrived quickly and were actually good.
It was hot and sunny, with the sun directly in my face. I asked to move tables, but the waiter said they’d open the canopy. That helped a bit, but the sun kept moving, so I had to ask again before they finally let us change tables.
We didn’t finish the appetizer on purpose—it was a large portion and we were saving room for our pastas. But more than an hour passed and our main dishes never arrived, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. We ordered another round of drinks in the meantime, but the waiter forgot the menu and I had to call him again.
Eventually, I asked about our food and the waiter said the pasta hadn’t been sent to the kitchen because we hadn’t finished the appetizer. That was frustrating—especially since we had ordered everything at once and no one ever checked in. Are we supposed to fully finish every plate just to get the next one?
When the food finally came, the carbonara lacked salt and the bolognese was overly salty.
Even getting the check was a hassle. We asked for it, but it never came—so I eventually had to stand up and go find someone to request it again. It still took a while to arrive.
The drinks and antipasti were the highlights, and the view was lovely, but the service was inattentive from start to finish. I had to chase down a waiter every time I needed something. Just sharing my...
Read moreAs one does, sometimes pure luck and chance will make you find a gem. And such is the story of how we stumbled to La Fabricca on a chilli November night, after an evening exploration of Budapest - coming straight from the airport. Invited by a myriad of lights in the St. Istvan square - a Christmas market and then noticing the winter garden of La Fabricca and it felt cozy and warm. And it was much more. Led to the garden we had a glimpse of the restaurant indoors, with it's beautiful and cozy decor. Glad to be seating with a street view, we were welcomed by a big smile of our waitress Mesi. But more about her later. The drink menus are served on paper while the main dishes and other drinks are accessible via a qr code. The prices are decent considering the location and food quality. We first received our drinks, and very shortly afterwards our main courses - gnocchi with truffles and mushrooms, and a smash burger with truffle mashed potatoes. And boy was it delicious. There was virtually no waiting time, surprising as the restaurant was rather full. And the food was so good. Even though mostly full, we still found some appetite for dessert. A sticky toffee pudding and a Dubai chocolate pastry. Both worth the sin. All well plated and looking pretty. But aside the food, the real gem was the service. Our waiter Mesi was a superstar. Attentive, very personable and likeable, the type of person you want to keep at your table as a guest, just "skootch a chair over and join us". Very professional at the same time, but not stiff. Honestly would come back for the food but please have...
