Christmas time in Budapest, Hungary 🥰💫So happy to have experienced the joy and magic of the holiday season in Budapest with @vikingcruises. I honestly can not understand the positive reviews and how the Budapest Tourism office can allow such a tourist trap. We came to Budapest today, checked ino the hotel and went to see „one of the most beautiful christmas fairs of europe“ (so we thought). as we were hungry we stopped at the first big food stop (see the picture). was confused that there were no prices stated for any of the dishes but anyway we orderd a shashlik and a goulash to taste some hungarian cuisine. well, they handed us the plates of more or less cold food, pointed to the conveniently placed card payment machine and sure enough charged 24.800 hungarian forint (=62,- euros). yes, for 2 plates of cold food, no drinks, no service. well, lessons learned. sure, go visit but don‘t get fooled by overpriced, low quality food - just a huge tourist trap. you immediately loose all interest to buy any other product there. and this ruins the whole experience that you should actually enjoy at christmas time. what a shame for such a beautiful city … btw, i complained but no chance i got any refunds as they already handed me the food. and sure enough i saw the same thing for other tourist later on. 😭

I shared this review to the previous location which has now been removed. This is the same businesses that operate in the square (same vendors): SCAM SCAM SCAM! Absolutely shocking and disgusting that they would charge 32,000 HUF (€85.87) for two of the these dishes attached in the picture!!! This is a private operator leasing space in a public square - absolutely appalling that The Municipality of Budapest allows them to operate this criminal behaviour! You can see in the picture that it was Lángos, which I believe retail for c. 2,000 HUF at the stall, with 'half Paprika Chicken, and half what was assumed to be Goulash' - apparently when challenging them AFTER we paid, they said the 'half' servings were 9,000 HUF and 5,000 HUF respectively. They then claimed that there was 'no half serves' and we had on each Lángos a full serving EACH of the dishes at full price (obviously not judging by the picture). My belief is they purposely do this, and don't explain the pricing when dishing up, and then rush you to pay. Most Tourists aren't converting the currency during payment and only are aware of the fraud when they realise the extortionate price they've paid and it's too late - there is no discussing or refunds once the plate is in your hand (often before you pay). The people operating this stall should be absolutely ashamed they are undertaking this predatory and unfair practice. You would NEVER pay this amount for street food in even the most expensive tourist traps in New York / London / Paris. Why is Budapest allowing this behaviour to operate in such a prime tourist spot and sully the great city of Budapest!

Located in the heart of Budapest, this bustling facility is an absolute gem. The sheer vibrancy of the atmosphere is enough to make anyone feel alive and energized. Vörösmarty tér, known for its bustling market, cafes and restaurants, is a must-visit destination for any tourist or local looking to experience the city's true essence.

Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the sheer beauty of the square. The charming architecture, the stunning views, and the warm and friendly locals all contributed to making my visit truly memorable. The service was top-notch, and the products and services offered were of exceptional quality.

Despite all of this, I did notice that the place can get quite crowded at peak times, which can detract from the overall experience. Furthermore, prices may be a bit on the higher side compared to other parts of the city.

However, the unique charm and atmosphere of Vörösmarty tér more than make up for these minor shortcomings. The market, in particular, is an experience in and of itself, with a vast array of local products and handmade crafts that are sure to delight any visitor. The square's special features, such as its stunning Christmas market, add to the already magical atmosphere.

For these reasons, I give Vörösmarty tér four out of five stars. It truly is a must-visit destination for anyone exploring Budapest. If the owners could work to address the issues of crowding and high prices, this facility would undoubtedly be perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable and authentic Budapest experience. I am looking forward to returning in the future to see how the owners continue to improve and make their guests feel...

Vörösmarty tér, nestled in the heart of Budapest, is a fantastic destination that effortlessly combines history and modern charm. This lively public square is a perfect spot to soak in the city's rich heritage.

Adorned with the iconic Gerbeaud Café and crowned by the statue of Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, the square exudes a captivating atmosphere. Throughout the year, Vörösmarty tér hosts lively markets, adding a festive touch. The winter season, in particular, transforms it into a magical wonderland with Christmas markets featuring dazzling lights and tempting Hungarian treats.

The square is surrounded by quaint shops, restaurants, and cafes, offering a delightful experience for both locals and visitors. Indulge in delicious pastries at Gerbeaud Café or explore nearby boutiques showcasing unique Hungarian crafts.

While Vörösmarty tér can get bustling, especially during events, its picturesque setting and cultural vibes make it a must-visit for any traveler exploring Budapest. Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll, cultural immersion, or a taste of Hungarian delights, Vörösmarty tér is the perfect spot to capture the essence of this...
