We ordered the Hungarian gypsy steak and the duck breast and two glasses of wine. The gypsy steak is supposed to have freshly minced garlic on top and usually plenty of it. This had none! When I asked for some garlic, they brought out some preserved, extra salty, weak garlicky concoction (a white paste) in a small dish. I mean, how hard is it for a cook, for anyone, to mince some fresh garlic and put it on top of a steak, that's supposed to have this on it anyway?! The duck breast had no flavour, obviously it was frozen as well and then reheated! The wine list did not specify whether a particular wine was dry or sweet, so the customer had no way of knowing what they would be getting! As it turned out, one of the wines was an extremely sweet desert wine, which I would never have ordered with any of our main courses, had I known in advance what the wine was going to be! Then, to top it all off, when we received our bill, we got charged both taxes, as well as a service charge, ON TOP OF the already rather expensive advertised price, making it a SUPER EXPENSIVE DINNER for two VERY SUBSTANDARD main courses and two glasses of wine (where one of the wines being wholly INAPPROPRIATE because of the lack of proper care taken to denote its character on the wine list by the restaurant)! I know they do this manner of charging all over Europe, especially in tourist traps, but it's an unacceptable practice and irritating to the extreme: if you advertise your food at a certain price in your menu, you don't then double the price at checkout with your taxes and service charges!!! If you don't want your customers to ever come back to you, this is a sure way to do that! The service was acceptable, so the restaurant gets two stars for this, but it gets zero stars for the quality of it's food and for the lack of care taken in presentation of its wines on its wine list, as well as for the price gouging of...
Read moreFound this place on Google recommendations and chose it because of the goulash on offer. When we got to the restaurant, we wanted to get a table outside, however everything was taken. We saw a couple just paying up and asked one of the staff members if we could reserve that table, to which a lovely member of staff nodded and organised a table for us relatively quickly. We got given menus, not much was explained nor recommended, which is fine, but I feel like if you automatically add 12% on top of the bill for service, it should be part of the deal. There are clearly things on the menu that non-Hungarians will have no clue about. When we asked about a particular ingredient, the waitress told there was a "mistake" on the menu, again..doesn't take much effort to fix and reprint them. Anyway, after a little q&a session we placed our order, the waitress was lovely and agreed to do a couple of changes to the dishes as we weren't too keen on the sides. After a relatively long wait (35-40) mins we got our meals and were a little bit disappointed. The goulash looked like it sat under a heat lamp for a while and the potatoes looked kind of sorry, too. We didn't want to create a scene so we just decided to finish them up and go elsewhere for dessert (even though we had already chosen by then what we wanted). Not once did our drinks get topped up, we had to constantly ask for more, which is, again, fine but in this case don't charge me 12% extra. Overall if I had to rate food alone, I wouldn't give more than 2/5, but because of the lovely team members I shall...
Read moreTOURIST TRAP... with good food - I went here a couple of days ago with my wife. We were on a tight schedule with no other options as most of the restaurants that we had looked asked for a reservation we didn't have. There is a menu in front of the restaurant where you can see the prices - as soon as you start to go through it, an employee gets out to "clean the tables" and suggests you to come in. Upon entering, you will probably notice how the first table on the right is "reserved" - at least that was the case when we went there and nobody sat on it during our 1.5-2h lunch.
The service was a bit slow as we waited for around 25-35 min for lunch and we were the only ones in the restaurant.
Our order was: 1x grilled chicken with salad and 1x grilled pork with gypsy potatoes + 2 beers. The bill ended up being 48 euros which is ridiculous, especially when you see that the service charge is enormous 13% and the tips are not included. The food was fine and the portions were quite generous, I can't argue about that, but that price is REALLY NOT WORTH VISITING the place as it's not a high-end restaurant. Would probably avoid if I were you.
EDIT: I'm going to lower the final rating as I'm now going through the reviews and finding that a lot of them are 5/5 from newly created accounts that have probably never been here + most of them are left 12-24h ago. BE AWARE,...
