Fell into the tourist trap here. Don’t really see the appeal now that we’ve been and sampled the chimney cakes.
I’d seen this place in particular featured on a lot of tourist websites and YouTube channels. There are a lot of places in Budapest to get chimney cakes but this was always cited as the best where they make them fresh to order while you wait. The space looks like a completely different location as well. So, unless there are other shops of this brand that don’t come up on Google and we somehow ended up at the wrong one, I don’t know why we had such a different experience. The internet posts talking about Molnárs are relatively recent as well so don’t think it’s an unfortunate matter of them changing their business model just in time for our visit.
The cakes were premade and wrapped in plastic, which I had hoped before ordering were just serving as visible examples of the flavors. No. They just take those and warm them up on the grill once you’ve ordered. We ordered a cinnamon cake and a chocolate cake. They aren’t bad, exactly, they just aren’t worth the effort of tracking the place down. They might be more interesting when ordered with ice cream filling, but seeing as it was -8C the day we visited, I can’t say. Save the time, money, and calories and maybe go for a sweet, freshly fried lángos...
Read moreThese chimney cakes were the best I had - much better than in Prague! They were warm, crispy, and the toppings I chose (one half with cinnamon and one half with cocoa powder) were delicious. I really liked the fact that you could order two different toppings! You could choose from vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa powder, chocolate, coconut, walnuts, almonds and poppy seeds. What I didn't like though, was the fact that my friend (who ordered her chimney cake half an hour later, when the shop was a bit fuller), had to wait over half an hour for her order, because every other customer kept being placed in front of her, somehow. I get that the employees were busy, but at the same time, it would have been good to keep an eye on the customers that had been waiting for a long time already. Also, although 990HUF are little over 3€, and I was stuffed full, it's definitely pricier than the other chimney cakes you see being sold around the city. (Maybe the other ones aren't as good though - I haven't tried them out yet). Edit: I had a chimney cake at a street vendor, and it was not as good and crispy as this one, for...
Read more"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Just had the most heavenly experience at Molnár's kürtőskalács in Budapest! 🌟 I couldn't resist trying their cinnamon-flavored chimney cake roll topped with luscious vanilla ice cream, and it was a match made in dessert paradise! 😍🍦
The chimney cake had that perfect balance of crispy caramelized exterior and soft, fluffy dough on the inside. The aromatic cinnamon flavor added a delightful warmth to each bite, while the vanilla ice cream brought a creamy, cool contrast. It was a symphony of textures and flavors that left me craving for more. 🎵❤️
Molnár's kürtőskalács truly knows how to create a culinary masterpiece. The combination of the fragrant cinnamon and the creamy sweetness of the vanilla ice cream was simply divine. The service was friendly and the ambiance added to the overall experience.
