I was extremely disappointed with my meal here - I actually left the restaurant upset because the quality of the food was so poor. I had the pumpkin soup to start - it was not amazing, but it was interesting, just not something I would order again. I had the venison for an entree. The venison was cooked medium well - it was awful. I had to drink 750 ml bottle of water to get it down and was unsuccessful of finishing. It was seasoned with onions put into the meat. The venison was served with dumplings and plums. The dumplings were so dry and bland, I tried to use all of the sauce to help it, but there was no helping. The plums were not cooked. They were simply fresh cut and put on the plate - the plums were the best thing on the plate. I never turn down dessert, but literally couldn’t even imagine what they would bring me. This restaurant had such great reviews, and I was expecting a decent meal for my last night in Budapest. This was seriously the worst meal I’ve had ever, not just in Budapest. In fact, everywhere else I ate in Budapest was amazing. When I got off the train, I went to an Arabic coffee shop, the food there deserved the prices Pierrot charge me for that terrible meal. Pierrot was sincerely a waste of my time - I left hungry and extremely upset that they actually served me medium well venison. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. After I felt sick from the venison, I stopped eating and asked for the check - then asked for the check three more times and turned down an offer for dessert twice. Why would I ever want to eat dessert at a place that serves dry dumplings and over cooked venison? The pianist, however, was amazing and the waiters were...
Read moreRestaurant in Budapest – 4.5 stars? Must be in an alternate universe.
During my trip to Budapest, I was tempted by the restaurant’s high rating – 4.5 stars – and the promise of traditional Hungarian cuisine. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a decision I deeply regret. The interior was bland – neither cozy nor characterful – just completely uninspired. The waiter was friendly and quickly found me a table (not surprising, considering the place was mostly empty). From that point on, however, the evening turned into a culinary disaster.
The fish soup, which should’ve been aromatic, slightly spicy, and rich with the essence of fresh fish, paprika and onion, tasted as if someone had scooped water from the muddy bottom of a lake and tossed in rubbery chunks of fish. The muddy aftertaste was revolting – it was simply inedible. No surprise that this dish has since vanished from the online menu.
The Hungarian confit beef chuck, which is meant to be tender, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth soft, was a total failure. The meat was so tough and rubbery that I couldn’t even chew it – I had to give up.
Dessert? Flódni – a traditional layered cake with apples, poppy seeds, walnuts and plum jam – was served cold, straight from the fridge. Some layers were still chilled, and the only dominant flavor was an overwhelming and cloying sweetness.
The wine was decent – probably the only redeeming part of the meal – but it couldn’t begin to mask the disaster on the plate.
The price for this experience? Over €100. I walked away not only disappointed, but also wondering how this place ever earned its glowing reviews. I absolutely do not...
Read more⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Grazia Bosco-Brameyer Although we unfortunately couldn’t experience Pierrot Restaurant in Budapest in person, we would like to leave this review to express our deep gratitude and appreciation.
Due to a serious scam by the travel agency Fly Go Voyager, which sold us fake airline tickets, Roberta was unable to carry out the surprise party she had lovingly planned for Giuseppe’s 50th birthday. Yet Pierrot stood by us, even in this disappointment.
A heartfelt thank you to Benedek, who supported us step by step with exceptional kindness, patience, and professionalism. Every detail was handled with care and humanity, making us feel welcomed even from afar.
Special thanks also to the chef, who had thoughtfully created a custom dessert for Roberta, considering her complex dietary needs. A truly meaningful gesture.
Despite the last-minute cancellation, we were even refunded the cost of the dessert, which we had not requested out of appreciation for their care. A further sign of the integrity and grace with which this restaurant treats its guests.
Pierrot is much more than a restaurant: it is a place where genuine attention, warmth, and respect for the guest define the experience. We truly hope to come in person soon, to live what has already proven to be something special — and finally celebrate Giuseppe as...
