Hidden beneath the historic castle walls, this gem of tour is just waiting to be unearthed and is absolutely worth the admission price. Remember, the only way to see this vast underground labyrinth is by guided tour and the tour lasts about 40+ minutes. You will enter the cave via a side door along an undescriptive alleyway and as you descend into the darkness, you will feel the cool, damp air offering a refreshing reprieve from the city above. The cave consists of winding tunnels, limestone walls, along with some ancient stalactites and stalagmite and medieval stone quarries, which have long since been abandoned centuries ago. Our guide was fantastic and provided us with a vast amount of historical information concerning the cave as well as some interesting and unknown facts. Such as, today, because of the cave’s unique mystical ambiance, the cave has and continues to host many intimate concerts and wine tasting events, casting a spell on all who venture beneath its streets above. To us, this was worth the price and if you get the chance, we recommend this to all, young and old.

I would highly recommend the tour if coming to Buda. You will have to book in advance as the tours are only operated by trained guides and there are no other ways for tourists to access the caves. The guide had plenty of information about Hungarian culture and history, as well as many interesting facts about the local geography and nature (there was even a mammoth tooth that you can hold). The most interesting stories are those surrounding the Ottomans; there are also some very macabre stories and sights.

40 minutes (ish) tour. Can take photos (I took plenty). No videos allowed. Arrive 5 mins before tour time. The tour guide has the door keys so once tour leaves the first section and down the stairs, there is no one at the entrance to let you in. Tour ends in a different place to the start. Man-made and natural caves combined. Good history. It is slightly fast paced but it's 40mins to walk 1.5km. Had 21 people in my group and all fine. You should pre-book your place.

I was contemplating going, even though the price seemed high.

Then I read this on the website:

"Photographs and video recording of the tour may only be taken if all visitors and the tour guide agree in writing.

By purchasing the ticket, the participants automatically accept the cave visit rules!"

It probably isn't enforced, but I'm not taking the chance of buying a non refundable ticket without being able to take photos which would not even include the other participants.

If it isn't enforced, it should be removed from...
