Love this lovely bistro! We had just attended a concert at St Stephen’s Basilica & had had a long day of exploring the city on foot so were quite tired when we happened to pass by this warm, friendly bistro with live folk music. We requested an indoor table & had the whole interior virtually to ourselves. From start to end, our waiter Daniel was warm, friendly, entertaining, knowledgeable & attentive. From feeling exhausted, we quickly perked up with the happy, lively music provided by a violinist & a marimba? musician. They had a wide repertoire of music & played with verve & joy. The improvisations were delightful! Now to the food. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary amuse bouche. This was followed by their veal goulash which was absolutely delicious. My bowl was sparkling clean as I had mopped up every drop with the bread provided. We had asked to share a single portion of the goulash between 2 people & were pleasantly surprised to have the kitchen split it into 2 bowls. That’s true service! We then had the pike-perch Kapati with prawns & risotto with pecorino cheese. Daniel explained the history of the dish to us & recommended a lovely Hungarian white wine to pair with it. The risotto wasn’t overly rich & cooked to perfection. The fish was fresh & subtly flavoured & the prawn succulent & well marinated. I’m usually cautious about risotto as I find it generally overly rich but this version was simply divine. We ended the meal with the traditional Hungarian dessert of cottage cheese dumpling with a honey crumble. This was good but I would have preferred it served hot. The entire meal was served without any delay & despite it being busy outside, Daniel never failed to check up on us. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more & would definitely return if I visited Budapest again. A lovely experience of Hungarian cuisine served with warmth & efficiency in a lovely ambiance of live folk music. Many thanks for making our last night in Budapest such an...
Read moreAmazing food but terrible service. We had reservations and set dinner during Christmas Eve and the staff was just not ready nor equipped to handle the amount of customers dining in that evening.
There was not any notification there was a queue to get into the restaurant and with reservations. This caused confusion for non locals and customers started to get upset.
Upon serving drinks and courses of dishes, the wait staff were often confused who ordered what and ended up quickly taking food away from the table to serve to another table.
My 14 year old son was served with a complimentary cocktail and this proves service is not all that attentive.
We asked to pay the bill and the waitress could not do so as the lady of the house or the boss was the gatekeeper to payments. I asked to pay the bill two more times and the boss lady told me she did not know what table I was sitting at. I sensed she was giving locals the opportunity to pay first and then the non locals. I finally mentioned that I have a cab waiting outside and flashed Hungarian currency at her face and she immediately attended to my bill.
Again, food was amazing but due to poor service, I would not give my business again to this establishment. Excellent service is especially important given the meal cost 200+ Euros. I do not recommend potential customers to dine at this restaurant as there are many other Hungarian restaurants to choose from and I am SURE with...
Read moreWent for dinner 7/15/25. This is really a 3.5 however I wanted to say what happened and why it could have been better experience. We came on the earlier side and restaurant was quiet inside. We chose that to enjoy the quiet other than when the beautiful music was playing. We had a lovely professional waitress. Then things went south when a man who works there and a woman who I think was the owner or manager came and sat with a little bit about 5-6 years old. They left him to smoke, to serve, to run to kitchen etc sometimes he was fine especially when he was eating. Other times he was loud and when alone calling out. I said something to the waitress before I realized they were staff or management. He was safe enough to be alone but of course he was calling out!
Now food the appetizer for 2 with meats and cheese was €26 and you can see it was meager portion. The beef ghoulash was good however also very small. The duck was very good and good size breast. It was suggested by concierge at W Budapest and I let them know if they want to also have a child care center it is not the best option especially for the prices I know they tried hard and they did their best to turn things around. Again close to even 3.75 however portions need to be smidge bigger and respecting the paying clients is important though I shouldn’t...
