Average food that tries to seem more fancy than it achieves to be. The execution is medium to poor. For example the perfect poached egg sounded great in the menu, but in reality it was a weird mix of ingredients that didn’t make sense and had no clear flavor profile. An other example were the angus beef tenderloin strips which turned out to be small beef bites drowning in a creamy sauce instead of properly cut strips. Lastly, the risotto which came with the trout was completely over-boiled.
The live music could be a nice addition, but it becomes very touristic when the violin player goes around tables asking for song requests that range from movie soundtracks to the common classical pieces. It ends up being a mix of random choices.
However, the worst thing is that they ask you to fill out a feedback survey when they bring you the bill. Then, in front of you, they review the feedback and ask for clarifications on why we gave a certain score for the food or the value for money. It was really awkward and turned our otherwise decent evening into something very strange. After explaining in more detail what we thought could be better, they removed a starter from the bill as a discount. Even though I appreciate the fact that they want feedback, I found the way they ask for it really intrusive and odd. It really ended coming across like they were trying to “buy” good reviews as we weren’t allowed to leave if weren’t satisfied.
Overall, other than this last awkward behavior, the service was polite, the ambiance was decent, but the food isn’t that good, especially when your...
Read moreIf you're looking for an exceptional dining experience in Budapest, Aszu is an excellent choice. Nestled in the heart of the city, just a stone's throw from St. Stephen's Basilica, this restaurant is a popular destination, so it's wise to make a reservation in advance.
The atmosphere at Aszu is both inviting and cozy, making it an ideal spot for a fine dining experience. The menu offers a remarkable selection of dishes, all prepared with fresh ingredients that truly enhance the flavors. Each dish we ordered was not only beautifully presented but also incredibly tasty, leaving us with clean plates as a testament to the delightful culinary experience.
Adding to the charm of the evening was the live local music, which created a nice and relaxing ambiance. The volume was just right—not too loud—allowing guests to unwind, sing along, or simply enjoy the moment in peace.
Overall, I highly recommend Aszu for anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in Budapest. The combination of exquisite food, a warm atmosphere, and delightful entertainment makes it a must-visit...
Read moreThis is a beautiful restaurant inside, designed with attention to detail and the ambiance is welcoming and cozy. A bunch of Michelin adverts on the door prepare you for a great meal. Unfortunately this isn’t the case 100%.
The food is tasty and sounds adventurous when you read the menu but it’s extremely heavy and lacks that fresh elegance a Michelin star restaurant has, in fact I believe the restaurant does not hold a star anymore.
The bill is very expensive for what they serve, and the general average for Budapest, without giving you anything special. Okay yes the food looks good and is presented well but the execution is lacking - don’t get me wrong it tastes good but it is far from a lightweight, mind blowingly flavoursome experience.
The staff are very nice but sometimes not as helpful and are running around like headless chickens, maybe most are seasonal?
We expected more from this restaurant, but unfortunately we were left slightly disappointed and with a big bill to pay, which we felt...
