Sophie Budapest — Restaurant in Budapest

What an exceptional restaurant. My wife and I had just arrive in Budapest and didn't know where to have dinner. We stumbled upon Sophie Brasserie and what a place to stumble upon. The food was of a standard that would rival fine dining establishments in Paris and London. Value for money was incredible and service / experience was excellent. Tamas our waiter was very kind and a served us impeccably. He even took the time out of his service to show us where to go in Budapest and what to avoid. He gave us a map, pointers and what Hungarian life is all about. I would recommend this lovely establishment to any of my travelling friends and say that if you are in Budapest and want a great fine dining experience then Sophie Brasserie is your best stop. Oh wow! Budapest has become foodie heaven.

It was a grey, drizzly evening and the restaurant we had planned on visiting turned out to have closed its doors permanently. We were hungry, wet and cold. Personally, I didn't fancy heavy touristic fare so I was intrigued when we came across this empty restaurant with a beguiling menu. Another empty restaurant with fabulous cuisine: what's wrong with people? We went in and I have to say the food was spectacular, the service attentive and they even had someone play the piano for us. The duck was excellent (i do like duck) but the piece de resistance was the most perfect cheese cake, like, EVER!. Watch out if you are a tourist!!!

Food is good and the price for it is right. BUT if you drink some wine and show them which one you want, they just nod and give you a more expensive one so you‘ll have a nice surprise in the end when you get the check.

The 2 stars are there because the food was good. It‘s still a scam and ruins the whole ambiente, when one smiles in your face just to get a few cheap bucks. The place also doesn‘t look as if it needs to squeeze every last cent out of tourists. It would be better to be honest and get some tips than promoting this behavior.
