During our recent tour of Budapest from Dubai, we had the pleasure of discovering Retro Lángos, and it quickly became one of our favourite food stops in the city. We tried their sour cream lángos and the traditional Hungarian lángos topped with sour cream, garlic, and cheese—absolutely delicious! The dough was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, perfectly fried and full of flavour. It was rich, hearty, and the toppings were incredibly generous. We also paired our meal with a cold beer, which made the experience even better.
The best part? The prices were surprisingly affordable, especially considering how filling and tasty everything was. It’s a great spot if you're looking for a budget-friendly yet authentic Hungarian food experience.
The atmosphere at Retro Lángos is casual and welcoming. The retro-themed setup adds to its charm, and the staff were friendly and helpful, even with a steady stream of customers. You can tell this place is well-loved by both locals and tourists.
Coming from Dubai, where international cuisines are everywhere, we were still so impressed by the authentic flavors and cozy vibe here. Retro Lángos gave us a real taste of Hungary, and we left feeling full and happy.
Highly recommended for anyone visiting Budapest—it’s a...

First off, I would not recommend planning to come here during Christmas season, because the queue was extending 15 metres outside the door all the way to the sidewalk. It was near impossible to get a seat inside, so a lot of people had to seat outside in the -2C wet cold weather.
Of course, you may think that the amount of people waiting to order means the restaurant makes something unique inside. Well, no - it's all tourists, almost no local Hungarians. Even if you suffer through 40 minutes of waiting in to order and handle all the chaos going around you, you will pay 8-10€ for a deep fried flower "cake" with some basic topping.
I agree - it does taste good and the portion is quite large (can be easily shared by two if you're not super hungry), but it's oily, overpriced and hugely overrated. Also, they only offer expensive, but generic beers (Pilsner Urquell and Dreher).
If you want to try authentic local langos, find a random "food hole in the wall" and support some small local langosmaker. Trust me, it will...
Read moreWe discovered this place because it was being recommended on Reddit by locals for having really good, quality langos in the center of the city. We have something similar in our country (probably identical, scovergi) so we ditched the classic recipe and went with a loaded one. The langos was great, if a bit expensive. It's definitely a place geared towards tourists but the whole concept is done trully well. Great staff, very organised. We sat outside on a hot September day and it was full. The food came in like minutes. Even though I found the portion size to be a bit small in the beginning, I was struggling to finish the whole langos by the end. Went inside to the bathroom and it was very clean, as tras the whole interior. My only problem with the place: it was so full that we felt like we couldn't hang out a bit longer after the meal, like we were occupying seats meant for other tourists who wanted to eat. In the tourist season, it's definitely a place where you eat, pay and leave, no hanging around for the food to set a bit before going on to do other...
