On a chilly late Sunday afternoon, I stumbled into The Annam Cafe, and instantly, the warmth of Hanoi’s soul wrapped around me like a silk scarf. This isn’t just a café—it’s a portal. A time machine. A spiritual transmission direct from the streets of Vietnam’s capital into the heart of Budapest.
I ordered an egg coffee—always a treat, always a ritual—and what arrived was nothing short of liquid poetry. A custardy, velvety crown atop rich Vietnamese brew, so perfect it could make a poet weep and a monk break his vow of silence just to whisper, “Another, please.”
The interior, with its stylish banquette seating, framed Saigon ephemera, lush foliage, and natural light spilling across tile floors, is like the set of a modern Vietnamese novella where all the characters are cool, mysterious, and deeply caffeinated.
I only stopped in for coffee, but I glanced at the menu and made a vow: I will return. The Vietnamese baguettes, the pho variations (rare beef! tofu! beef shank!), and the grilled pork with noodle salad all feel like promises of future comfort.
Annam Café captures the nature and spirit of Hanoi—not in a cliché way, but in a lovingly distilled, deeply felt way. It’s not just a taste of Vietnam. It’s the sound of motorbikes in the distance, the scent of star anise and fresh herbs, the gentle rhythm of a place that invites you to slow down and savor.
Annam Café isn’t just worth visiting. It’s worth building your...
Read moreThe food was some of the most flavourful I have ever had in my entire life. The server was super friendly and fast with his service. I would highly recommend tasting the egg coffee, seeing as it is very interesting and tasty. In terms of food, most of which we tried were from the “chef’s recommendation “ and 100% worth the try. My favourites were the fried dumplings though, served with a delicious sweet chilli sauce (if I am not mistaken). The serving sizes are huge in my opinion, seeing as I came to this place two days in a row, and had to get some of my food to go both times, despite my hunger. The prices are good for the wonderful quality and quantity you are receiving. Definitely visit this place for an unforgettable...
Read moreGreat place to relax and eat. The food is authentic and reminds me of Vietnam. There’s a large variety of selection both in beverages and foods. My favorite one is the pork sandwich. I’d recommend it to everybody, if they haven’t tried it.
