Salvadores is an experience you can easily miss if you are not in the know! We went there under the mistaken impression that we were going to a fine dining French Restaurant. So imagine our surprise when we took the lift all the way to the top of the Central Mall in Residency Road and were instantly transported back in time to an era of quiet charm that was old world and gentle, exuding a feeling of comfort and familiarity. The atmosphere was familiar, the pictures on the walls were familiar, even the faces of the serve staff was familiar. It didn't take me long to figure out that the place was a dead ringer for the old Hotel Victoria where I had spent many a romantic evening during the days of my youth! We lost no time in establishing contact with the old staff and the current owner, Mr. Salvadore and reminiscing about the good old days. It was specially wonderful to meet Blake our server, who like fine wine had aged well and was full of stories about the days of yore. To get back to the point, lunch started with a complimentary bread basket of assorted bakes and some lovely herbed butter as accompaniment. We followed this with the Bouillabaisse - a rich and creamy seafood soup. It was warm and refreshing without being heavy. The appetizer we opted for was the German Bratwurst wrapped in Bacon. You can't really go wrong with this combo and it was absolutely delicious. For mains we had the Spaghetti Bolognese and the Paella Di Mariscos - a Spanish style seafood paella. Both were exceptional and cooked to perfection. On hindsight we felt that we could have had a meat based dish rather than the paella as it was very similar to the bouillabaisse. For dessert I had the plain Vanilla Icecream and my friend had the Tiramisu. The Tiramisu is worth mentioning as it was outstanding. Deliciously bitter and redolent of the taste of strong espresso it was not overly sweet or cloying the way it is in a lot of other places.

Salvadores was excellent ambience & service with very very disappointing food. The first impression of any good restaurant, especially European, is had from its bread basket - and Salvadores' was disappointing. We've had much much better - in terms quality & service in the town where they replace the focaccia if it's been sitting & has gotten cold. These were cold, dry, unwantedly chewy from the start. Then we ordered a Duck Ravioli & an Alfredo Gnocchi. The Ravioli's sauce was actually good - great umami flavours and well seasoned. The Duck Ravioli itself though was a major fail & hopefully unintentional scam. It was a very dry ricotta & onion filling with no duck at all. And the plentiful whole olives made the entire thing taste unbalanced & extra salty and just weird and extremely disappointing. The Alfredo Gnocchi pasta had a very average sauce & the gnocchi themselves were very underseasoned - with salt and herbs - and the entire thing was just short of tasteless. When we spoke about this with the servers, Jenkins was quite great with offering us an alternate which we didn't go for as they'd already struck out thrice by then. He offered us a dessert on the house though and it was decorated with a candle and greetings as we were celebrating a birthday - which was a nice gesture. The Blueberry Cheesecake was good. The place has an amazing ambience & is okay for the price if you get well cooked food. I'm not sure if the location is an unfortunate happenstance or if it's a temporary renovation as the building seemed abandoned with a couple of security personnel in the basement. Service is exemplary. The overall vibe is very old school charm.

Searching for exquisite cuisine and calm place to sit and talk with friends I found this. Easily located behind the (old) Bangalore central with good parking space. You may have to reserve a table even if it is vacant. As you enter you can just touch up a little in front of the mirror before entering the lift. As you reach the last floor to the top you are welcomed by the person to guide you enter. Note they have a dress code, shorts, T shirts are not allowed. The staff receive you with a smile and make you comfortable. Plan to reach early as their kitchen closes by 10 PM. Washrooms are at a common place for all three hotels on that floor. With fresh flowers on the table and the light above makes it wonderful. You can have outdoor seating as well, there is a smoking area allowing you to look at the beautiful view of the city. The food served is very delicious and presented awesome. If you are looking for heavy food this is not the place. We tried Brie and walnut crostini as appetizer, Tagliatelle Alla Fungi Tartufu, Canneloni Di Florentine as pasta which tasted too good. Do not miss the dessert, I prefer Tiramisu. The cost is more and worth the food. Booking a cab from here would be difficult as the drivers deny saying one way. Overall I had a great experience. Ask me anything you want me to answer, please like or comment if this was helpful

The one star is for the sheer beauty of the terrace, where diners can soak in lush views of Central Bangalore’s greenery. That, and the ever-smiling waitstaff—old-timers, all—who greet you with warmth and seat you with respect.

From here, my experience nosedived.

For starters, this restaurant has a curious policy: they don’t serve guests. My friends ordered meatballs and had to serve themselves. We ordered a salad and wanted to split it—only to be informed that this, apparently, is not how sophisticated guests dine. So, once again, self-service it was. When we questioned this, the waiter solemnly declared that each dish is perfectly portioned for one person. To which I ask the chef: And how, Sir, do you divine the exact portion size I require?

As fate would have it, we ended up with an entire untouched dish (even we aren’t psychic about portion sizes, it seems). But, lo and behold, the restaurant also has a strict no-takeaway policy. They would rather see perfectly good food wasted than risk a guest complaining about the taste of reheated leftovers.

The real kicker came when it was time to pay. Each of us paid via UPI. My payment went through, money deducted, proof in hand—but their machine refused to print a charge slip. And since a missing slip clearly outweighs actual bank proof, they insisted I pay again. The manager assured me they would reverse the duplicate charge.

One might expect a high-end, reputed, service-oriented establishment to follow up and settle the matter swiftly. One would be wrong.

I had to chase them for days, subjected to an impressive array of excuses: The accountant isn’t in yet. We’ll check and call you back. We haven’t received the bank statement. We’ve requested it from the bank. I don’t have access to accounts. I’m just a manager; I can’t do this.

Not once did anyone take the initiative to resolve the issue. I had already provided all proof—it was a simple matter of reversing the second transaction. Eventually, a friend who knows the managers had to step in. Only then did the manager finally call me to apologise and promise that the refund would be processed by morning.

Did that happen? No.

More follow-ups, more calls, a final threat of legal action—and only then was my money returned that evening.

For a restaurant that charges a premium, everything about it felt like a masterclass in how not to treat guests. With Bangalore spoiling us for choice with better food, better service, better ambience, and better everything—I see no reason to ever return. You...
