There are regular hotels that also serve vegetarian dishes along with non-vegetarian ones, then there are vegetarian hotels that serve only vegetarian food and THEN there are 'pure vegetarian' hotels. The 'pure vegetarian' hotels are a whole package..This Vasantha Vihar hotel is a typical example of Pure Vegetarian Hotels.
Vasantha Vihar has them all! Large portriats of Hindu gods and goddesses, ornate with flower garlands (insert fresh flowers, not the plastic faketard ones). All staffs including the cashier, attendants and cooks (bonus points if they speak Tamil) will look clean and adorn their foreheads with at least with one line of sandalwood paste or vibhooti tika. A large display counter loaded with South Indian Sweets. Food served on plantain leaves. And, most importantly, the aroma..the aroma of inscence sticks blended with the fragrance of pure cow ghee! (a kitchen that has, at any point of time cooked non veg dishes will never attain this aroma)
This pure veg feeling transcends well into the dishes as well. I had a Masala Dosa, a strong coffee and a Kesari and all of them felt really delicious. The dude serving was always attentive and smiling. Upon asking what a particular chutney was, he rushed back to the chef and came back to narrate the entire list of ingredients.
Well, Vasantha Vihar has its share of downsides too. First of all even though it is adjacent to a parking lot, that is reserved for some other business and not the hotel. So, no parking available. Second they seriously need to play their aesthetic game better, for the quality food they deliver is dishonoured by the sub par lighting, seating and interior decoration.
Overall, if you are looking for a trustworthy vegetarian restaurant in the area, do give Vasantha Vihar a shot. Give it quick or you will run out of seats because this place can seat only around 30 people at a time.
All the best...
Read moreIf you're craving authentic South Indian flavors, New Vasanthavihar is a good spot on MG Road.
The meals are fresh, flavorful, especially the sambar and Kootu Curry which are hits right cords on taste buds. Their veg thali is a must-try for a wholesome experience if you prefer south indian style lunch.
However, the place does have its downsides. Parking is a challenge and tough for car parking. Bikes can still make a parking spot.
Seating area is quite limited, which can make peak hours feel cramped. Tables can't accommodate more than 4 people hence will be difficult for larger group.
The menu leans heavily toward traditional South Indian flavors, so options are limited if you're looking for variety.
Still, for a quick, tasty south Indian food fest, it’s a...
