Nasi and Mee is a Pan-Asian restaurant located on the 2nd floor of the Sahodara Saudham Building, and a Sahodaran Ayyappan concern is located adjacent to M.G. Road on Mullassery Canal Road, Ernakulam, Kerala state, India in a pretty small and narrow alley, next to Maharaja's Ground and the Metro station. It has comparatively less traffic, mostly with autos and light vehicles, except for trucks, which was blocking a major portion of the street due to some construction from my experience. This was way back in May 2022.
The majority of the public wouldn't even know or notice that such a Pan-Asian restaurant, N&M, even exists since it's hidden from the popular and busy M.G. Road nearby with no obvious or specific signs, something at least which I didn't notice! Of course, you might have heard of the restaurant from word-of-mouth or publicity from Google Maps, etc.
Nasi and Mee has a profound influence on either Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian, or Japanese cuisines. N&M also offers soups, starters, seafood, and deserts. The menu includes these different cuisines. The menu states, "Menu crafted in Singapore, food made in India."
The staff seemed very polite and courteous. The restaurant had a distinct look inside with its innovative interior design and caricatures. Took a look at the menu, and my first impression was disappointing, since the items weren't more of a Chinese nature as I had expected. Had a hard time making my dine in order selections. Ordered a Chicken Wintermelon soup which was made out of a rich chicken broth, mushrooms (shitake), and bok choy. The entree I chose out of the limited menu preferences of mine was the Manak Mee Goreng Chicken. I was not at all a big fan of this dish, as it was quite oily, little salty, and mainly had some sauce seasoning which I hardly liked, apart from a burned out taste. I barely tasted it, saved it, and boxed it up. One serving of this dish alone was Rs. 430.00, and it wasn't worth it. Most of the items at Nasi and Mee seemed to me as quite expensive. Besides, the food taste wasn't justified as it could also be due to my unawareness of most of the Pan-Asian dishes. Perhaps, I should try any of the seafood, chicken or some of the more variety cuisines available now, if...
Read moreCame in with a bunch of friends on a Saturday afternoon. Parking space, though uncovered, is aplenty, which for its proximity to M.G Road, is a luxury. Had reserved for 1330 through Zomato, but we were the first to occupy the table for that time.
The ambiance is a mix of rustic and modern touches and is enjoyable. The bigger occupancy tables might invite a bout to occupy the couch on one side vs the wooden chairs on the other, even the later being decently comfortable.
The food was unique and tasty. The East Asian cuisine and the improvisations that they've done with it to make it locally delectable is in itself a good experience. Individually, all the dishes had its zing and none disappointed. On the price-point, it is slightly on the higher side.
The service in general felt so sub-standard. With a 'Spare me, I'm new' badge on almost all of the waiters who served us, they were shabby with the tableware. In one instance, while clearing a plate, it slipped from his hands and was on my friend's lap, the wrong side down and she had to get all washed up. To add to its frustration, the waiter was just staring at us for at least 5-10 seconds before blurting out a heartless apology. It can be understood that every waiter starts from zero and can make some mistakes, but of this nature, and along with the flimsy handling of cutlery by some other waiters a little later felt like the restaurant has employed a bunch of untrained waiters or it could've been a bad day for the entire 'Spare me' tribe. Whatever it be, I expected a note from someone senior overseeing all this.
With a restaurant of its reputation and class, service needs to be of equal or more concern along with the food it serves. The bill also had a 'service charge' component to which I was really wondering if they had done even a bit of justice towards it- I scoffed, paid and left.
The two stars is for the good location, ambiance and the unique food it serves. The service robs out the next two, two and half-ish it could've had. Head out to this restaurant if in the mood for some unique dishes but keep a watch out for the...
Read moreIt's a good spot to be in. Location : it's around 100m from the main MG road. Spacious Parking area. It's a quiet location in the dead centre of town.
Experience: warmly greeted by the staff, we were shown the tables to sit around. The Ambience is good and the place is spacious enough with plenty of tables and seating arrangements. The Deco and lighting is pleasant and un-intrusive and blends well into the overall experience.
Menu: It's a complete Asian menu. With veg and non-veg options aplenty. Dim-sums, noodles, soups, Thai curries, grilled dishes, sushi rolls,....and the list is quite long. You get a decent variety of drinks as well. Some modern, some with a very asian twist on it....
Service. It was hard to decide what to eat but some prompt help from my friend and the staff helped to choose the good ones. After an order, there isn't much noticeable delay. Prompt service and timing keeps you from being too hangry from waiting
The Food. The food quality it awesome and worth the price you spend there. Very well presented and served. the Dim-Sums were particularly tasty and felt genuinely good. The Thai noodles with coconut milk and infused with Thai curry elements was outstanding in the sense that it made me remember fond memories from childhood. The taste was surprisingly similar yet so very authentic and different. It wasn't any longer just food. It was a journey. A lovely one too. The sauces are just spicy enf to tingle your taste buds but fear not, any chocolate/Milo drink will cool down the boiler in your tongue with a good aftertaste.
Overall It's a place for family or friends, small or large groups to just meet up or to celebrate occasions which will start with an overture and end with and encore , till your tummies are full and the mind even more.
*PS. The lack of much photos is only a clear indication that I loved...
