We visited Desi Curry in Fort Colaba and honestly, the experience was a mixed bag leaning towards disappointing. We ordered the Veg Gavran Thali and the Chicken Gavran Thali — looked exciting on the menu, but reality didn’t deliver.

Here’s what we ordered: • Veg Gavran Thali: Sukki Bhaaji, Patal Bhaaji, Varan, 2 Chapatis, Bhakri, Rice, 1 Sweet (Gulab Jamun), Papad, Pickle, and Matta (we did NOT opt for Sol Kadhi). • Chicken Gavran Thali: Chicken Masala, Chicken Sukka, 4 Wades, Pulav, Koshimbir, Chicken Pickle, and Matta (again, skipped Sol Kadhi).

Our experience: • Food Temperature: Major letdown. Food was served cold, not even slightly warm. Cold wades and chapatis are a major turnoff. • Quantity vs Price: For ₹777 (before discounts), the portion size was way too small. Gavran thalis are supposed to be wholesome and filling — this felt like tasting portions. • Taste: Just okayish. Nothing stood out, the flavors were flat. Definitely not the kind of rustic, bold taste you expect from Gavran-style food. • Ambiance: One good thing — the place is air-conditioned and decently maintained. Nice, clean, and chill vibe to sit and eat. But there’s no washroom for customers, which is a big minus, especially if you’re dining in. • Service: Staff was okay-okay, doing the bare minimum. No smiles, no warm service, just taking orders and moving on. • Value for Money: Not worth it. Even after Zomato discounts, paying nearly ₹700+ for this kind of meal felt heavy on the pocket. Without discount, it would’ve been painful.

Final thoughts: The ambiance is decent and it’s a comfortable place to sit because of the AC, but food quality, portion size, and overall service really need improvement. If you’re looking for true Gavran food or a proper satisfying thali experience, there are better options out there. Desi Curry might be okay if you’re nearby and desperately hungry — otherwise,...

It's an absolutely packed side street, with cars parked exactly below No-parking signs.

Instrumental music - the old Hindi music played on. There were illustrations on the walls and the sofas were dark green.

As usual I was looking for the vegetarian thali options - and that was what drew me inside in the first place.

The Veg Gavran Thali with Sukki Bhaaji, Patal Bhaji, Varan, Bhakri, a small bowl of rice, papad, pickle and another small bowl of Sol Kadi was what I ordered

I opted for Jowar Bhakri, the flat bread made from the millet. It goes well with the combination.

And then the hapoos, or the ice cream made from Alphonso mangoes was hard to resist. Worth it. A small helping but the true flavour of mangoes is deeply rich and fulfilling.

A couple of young foreigners walked in and insisted on knowing whether the pomfret was Chinese or Black. The waiters assured them it was the white variety - first time I'm hearing about Chinese pomfrets. And they wanted it cooked with no spices at all - repeating it a few times for good measure.

Then, what was the idea of walking into Desi Curry? I guess they had their reasons and had come to the place before.

In the weekday afternoon, there wasn't much of a crowd. And after the meal, lingered with the soft music and the laidback atmosphere. I have no idea what it's like...

This is a small place in the south Bombay known for its non-veg cuisine. The place is small yet fancy and very quiet. The ambience ✨ is okay, no music, no alcohol. There are only 8-10 tables available. The food will be made on the spot and it's very fresh being it sea ⛵ food 🐠 or the chicken 🍗. They also serve many types of Thali, Fish 🐟 , Chicken 🍗 and Veg. The experience was amazing, the menu is limited thus you won't be confused about what to order. They have a limited menu mainly main course but at the same time it's a tasty menu. The food that we ordered was :

Chicken 🍗 Lollipop - They serve 6 pieces and it's a deep fried coated with flour mixed with Indian 🫚 spices.

Prawns 🍤 Koliwada - It's prawns made in Koliwada style, it is also fried and made in Koliwada style.

Further we tried Special Fish Thali 🐟 : In this you will get the option of Chapati/ Wade/ Bhakri and different fish gravy will be provided like Surmai 🐟, Pomfret 🐠, Prawns 🦐, Fish Thecha, fish rice, dessert, Koshimbir this all will be provided. It's enough for 2 people if you have already had appetizers or if you aren't very hungry.

Overall the experience is nice if you only want to have a dinner 🍽️ and looking for economical place and sea food 🍜. You can also avail some discounts from...
