Read moreLegendary food. The attention to detail, the superb taste and the perfect coffee makes Poornima your Go-to happy place. Down the lane from Bombay house, Poornima has been on the avid food connoisseurs mind and taste buds for decades. This Heritage eatery has remained true to its roots in South Canara with its consistent superlative delivery of superb Goud Saraswat Brahmin food. The consistency and the superb quality are benchmarks here that stems from sourcing the best raw materials available. A case in point is their Vada. I came to Poornima in the late morning and their Vada Sambar was my first choice. The Vada by far was the best I have ever had. If ever there was a Vada served that kissed perfection, then this was it . The sambar ticked all the boxes for consistency, taste, pungency, aroma and the sweetness of vegetables that comes from a combination of the Maillard's reaction and a gentle breakdown of sugars. The crisp Vada soaking in all the soul satisfying goodness of the sambar set the standard for the superb coffee that followed. I had the opportunity to witness the owner Mr.Nayak, check the quality and the temperature of the coffee served.I mentioned to him that seeing an owner on the shop floor was rare ,leave alone checking the temperature of the milk and the strength of the coffee decoction He took a minute and explained the minute details that makes the coffee and thw food in Poornima great. God is in the details and Poornima serves as a labour of love...

Apart from lunch hours i.e. from 1 pm to 3.30 pm, there serve the regular snacks like Idli, Medhu Wada, Dosas etc. During lunch hours, they serve a Thali, Mini Meal, Bisi Bele Bhath & Curd Rice. I love the chutney that they prepare. Their Bisi Bele Bhath is too watery for my liking & is lightly spiced. Their Curd Rice is nice; both these dishes are served with rice fryums.
It is a pay-first & eat-later type of restaurant though you have table service but only during lunch hours. The customers have a option of sitting or standing and eating.
Its popularity can be gauged from the ever-thronging crowds,...
