Ive been going to Bali Buda in Ubud for years. I miss the ambience of the previous location, the background music, the cozier less commercial style environment. I continue to go to the Ubud branch weekly because i used to think that the food was still great even though the interior design and ambience of the new restaurant is without the soul of the previous...until that is 2 days ago and im sad to say, im done. Ive lost confidence in ordering because every time i go i order the same dish and drink and end up with either a satisfactory experience or a terrible experience. The service is fine as always, but the problem I believe is that there is a lack of consistency and the quality of your order depends very much on who is making it and as mentioned 2 days ago i went there with 2 friends who visited Bali..as i had great things to say about Bali buda but there dishes were mediocre ..1 friend ordered a granola with fruit and the fruit was off...sour...the strawberries tasted very sour, the papaya tasted like death and im a huge fan of papaya and my other friend ordered the bean burger which was so so in comparison to previous orders (ive had it a few times). Long story short, ive just lost confidence in the food quality and alongside the Mcdonalds kind of soulless interior...goodbye..and its a sad goodbye because i used to love Balil Buda and have taken many friends there over the past 8 years that ive been in bali. Bali buda is NOT a bad restaurant but its has lost its soul and the food...not as good as used to be...even when the old kitchen in the previos location was in comparison not as good as this one. Message to the owner: Instead of bird songs in the background its better to play the traditional balinese music that you used to play and go back to the old ubud B Buda style interior design..which was more personable, cozy, warm, and less commercial. Good luck and...

Seriously we have tried almost every cafe and nice restaurant and end up here every day. I’m vegetarian and gluten-free and my partner is keto and we both love it! They source quality ingredients like organic vegetables and free range eggs. The coffee is great too but no decaf.
Tips:
if your order is complicated ask them to write it down to minimize mistakes. When there are still mistakes take a chill pill - they’re happy to make things right.
this is slow food. Leave plenty of time to order and eat (minimum one hour).
our favorites: omelet with cheddar cheese and mushroom; zucchini noodles with pesto, parmesan and fried eggs; keto burger with beef rashers (like beef bacon) and almond bun. For sides sautéed spinach with butter, kraut-chi (yummy probiotic kimchi style sauerkraut), and a small side of fruit with activated almonds. The toasted almond bun with butter is simple and good for a small keto breakfast.
visit their grocery store around the corner for all kinds of goodies: coconut cream yogurt (heavenly!), fresh vegetables, pasture raised eggs, tofu, sparking soda water, nuts, baked goods (including gluten-free bread), dark chocolate (Ubud Raw chocolate in the fridge is devine), tea, vitamins, natural shampoo and more.
make sure to let them know if you’re gluten-free as some dishes come with unexpected gluten (e.g. the omelet comes with a side of bread crumps that will get all over everything).
our other favorite spot to eat on date night is Hujan Locale for a fancy, fresh, Indonesian meal. Get a reservation online.
for the best gluten-free brownie / gluten-free chocolate cake go to USADA. The one at Bali Buddha is super bland... though probably half...
