Came here for a family dinner and initially underestimated this restaurant as it didn’t seem authentic. We ordered several recommended dishes: roasted duck, xiao long bao, fried birthday noodles, fried squid with honey, tofu with mushrooms, mala chicken, beef with black pepper, corn soup, and hainamese rice.
Surprisingly, all of the dishes exceeded my expectations, except for the beef with black pepper and mala chicken, which weren't seasoned well. The beef was quite bland, and the mala chicken was too greasy and inconsistently seasoned—some pieces were too salty, while others were bland. However, the rest of the dishes were solid 8+, comparable to some authentic Chinese restaurants in Jakarta.
We paid around IDR 1.1Mio for all of this, after a 20% birthday discount. For a restaurant in Menteng, this is super cheap!
In addition to the food, our waiter, Mbak Ayu, was really welcoming. She explained the menu well, gave us complimentary onde-onde, and played with my baby nephew.
Overall, the experience was good, would return to try their...
Read moreWe had a late family lunch at this premise and ordered food and drink, most of them seen in pictures. Of these foods, the winner was the roast duck (half). It was tender, juicy, and tasty. The skin that came with it was crunchy, and the wrap was also tasty. The distant second was the selada romania. It was refreshing. However, the sauce was rather bland. The third place was the ayam goreng. It was tender and crunchy yet didn't have strong taste. The fourth place was the xiao long bao, especially because of the delicious soup inside. The rest of the foods were not worth mentioning. The services were responsive and helpful, and the ambiance was comfortable. I didn't know how we spent because my sister paid the bill.
In our second visit, we reordered the roast duck, selada romania, and tahu dingin (teow chew). We also ordered asparagus and crab soup, hakau, and sheng jian bao. They were all good, especially the duck, the soup, and the hakau. This time, we spent around 1 million for five people. Not bad for...
Read moreLast night was an adventure in flavors when my colleagues and I decided to grab dinner together. We were starving, so we went all out with our order.
First up, we had the Xia long bao, and wow, the soup inside was so fresh and had this amazing gingery kick. We were practically fighting over the last one!
Then came the signature roast duck. The skin was so crispy, you could hear the crunch with every bite. It was gone in no time.
Next, we tried the braised bean curd with mushroom. It was soft, eggy, and so comforting. Perfect for a chilly evening.
The surprise hit of the night was the deep-fried crispy squid with honey. It was sweet, crispy, and had that perfect seafood flavor. We were all pleasantly surprised by how good it was.
Finally, we devoured the stir-fried beef with Taiwanese sauce. It was the perfect savory ending to our feast.
We ate and left with full bellies and big smiles. It was a dinner...
