One of the best options to have Indonesian cuisine in Menteng, Jakarta. It has cozy and quite private dining area below street level. Well-thought interior design that balances ethnic ornaments and modern minimalist approach can be felt throughout the area.
We held a family lunch here a few days ago and, as we hadn't been to this restaurant quite a while, we kinda forgot the serving size of some dishes. So, to whoever dines here it is very wise to ask the waiters whether the dishes would be better for sharing or not.
We started off with some appetizers. Hands down the Tahu Berontak was much better than the Bakwan Seafood. Sate Kambing Muda was tender and juicy, as also the oxtail of Rawon Buntut. The Nasi Goreng Kampung was average for local taste as it might've used less spices to cater non-locals, just like the Sate Ayam.
The Gudeg Kendil, on the other hand, was prepared and cooked traditionally as the taste was very close to those in Jogja. The serving size was suggested for two people but, with sides of steamed rice, it needed four people to finish them off. Last but not least, the Gule Sengkel was rich in flavor and its broth was very savory with a touch of sweetness from coconut milk.
Overall we had a very nice dining experience at this restaurant. The waiters were all attentive and professional as we expect from a high-end restaurant (hence the price). Recommended for business lunch or family gathering to experience upscale...
Read moreThe dishes on the menu here are undoubtedly superb in taste and quality. The ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy. This place also served varied selections of traditional Indonesian beverage called "jamu". Jamu is a healthy drink made of local herbs and spices. But they served the jamu in such contemporary way by adding sparkling water to it. You have to try those jamu! About the price, I think it is pretty normal for such great food and beverage. It is above your local restaurant prices, but you will get what you pay for. But one thing that keeps me distracted from enjoying my food here is that this place has a considerable amount of mosquitoes. Because the concept of the restaurant building is semi outdoor, it allows the mosquitoes to get in to the restaurant. I've seen the staffs here are trying to eliminate those pesky mosquitoes with electric racket; but I think it is not enough. My advice to the owner is to build a permanent wall to keep the mosquitoes outside of...
Read moreOoooverpriced as hell! Like, the food doesn't even taste THAT good. Okay, yes the place is decorated to the corners (and, holy mother, there are real flower petals everywhere and the room literally smells flowery, is that really necessary?) and it IS located in a very upper class area, but for similar food you can actually find some with half the price around the same luxurious area. It's like they're more concerned with the appearance of the food than its actual taste. Because I readily admit that the food is beautiful. Beautiful! What kind of food only looks beautiful? It's not that I'm not appreciating this, but well, I came here to eat, not staring at the food! For some who like to dine in style this place is probably heaven for you. The rest of us who actually eat the food and not just ordering it for the purpose of posting it on Instagram, better go...
