Gusti Backpackers House — Hotel in Pulau Bali

So grateful to have been able to stay here at Gusti's Backpackers during the pandemic. With uncertainty of where to go and what to do when the pandemic struck, it was nice to have a place that offered consistent service, a bed to stay, wonderful local meals and much more. The family took such good care of me and the previous guests before we had to leave to return home. I stayed here for over half a year. There was never a moment that I felt neglected or forgotten. The owners and staff always checked up on me and even made me feel like family by inviting me and another foreigner who had stayed during the pandemic to local events and gatherings. It was like having a home away from home. As I had to stay for months unable to travel the owner was gracious enough to offer local meals, each a unique experience. Wonderful food, ask about local cuisine if interested in trying. They have a dog named 'People' (not sure if it is spelled right, but sounds like this word), very sweet once you get to know him. He barks at new guests entering but isn't aggressive. This hostel is very safe and perfect for both families, couples and solo travels. Gusti Backpackers, thanks you so much for everything you have done for me and others staying in the region during the pandemic. I hope to come again and visit...

I typically don’t write reviews on Google but unfortunately I would like to share a horrific experience we had recently at this hostel & am unable to write a review on Hostelworld as I had to cancel my booking and lose my deposit - the facilities are fine, the bathroom reeks but the beds are comfortable! The people are very kind and I really wanted to like this place! However, The second night of our stay we were awoke by a rat in our bags and eventually rat poop in our beds. I really would not like to give this hostel such a poor review as the staff were very nice to shoo away the rat and came running when they heard our screams but unfortunately we still had to pay for one of our nights and were not offered free breakfast after getting hardly any sleep the night before, as the rat kept coming back. I had to cancel my booking on Hostelworld so I ended up getting charged the deposit fee which meant I lost a good amount of money through this experience. I wish I could like this place or recommend it but we were sorely disappointed...

Spent more than two months in this place during the corona crisis, and couldn't have desired a better place to get stranded. The beds were comfortable and the place has always been kept spotlessly clean. The host family has been super kind and often offered us a glimpse of Balinese spirituality and culture. When it became apparent we would stay there for a while, they deviated from the standard western-style breakfast menu, and gave us a Balinese dish every morning. A delicious treat with great variety, compliments to the chef! Not unimportantly; the wifi is very good, it's not been down ever. Finally, from the common area you get a great view of Mount Agung, especially during sunrise. Worth setting...
