Royal Kamuela completely exceeded our expectations. We stayed in a private pool villa for 5 days during our honeymoon and didn't want to leave. The check in process was fairly easy, they took our bags to our room as soon as we arrived, and then had someone take us to our room, make us a welcome drink (which we later found out was a virgin herb mojito YUM) and explain where everything is and all there is to offer on the resort, in addition to personally walking us to see the shared pool, breakfast area, and spa. Every single time we stepped out of our villa during our stay, we were greeted with smiling faces and a "hello" from every single employee who passed us. I love that the breakfast is not a buffet but is made to order off a menu. They also serve fresh fruit (usually watermelon, papaya, cantaloupe and pineapple), daily fresh squeezed juice, your choice of coffee or tea and a bread basket (sliced bread, cinnamon rolls & crescent rolls) every breakfast. I tried a different entree every day and it was all DELICIOUS. There is a huge variety of selections on the breakfst menu, from typical breakfast food to fruit bowls to Indonesian classics. They offered 6 complimentary water bottles a day in our villa and gave additional complimentary water on request! At other hotels during our Bali vacation, we were charged for additional water after only 2 water bottles/day. The resort was very quiet and while we were there during the day, we couldn't hear any of the noise from the city even though we were right off a main road! It was a nice little getaway from the loud, busy streets. Their gym area is small but is brand new and if you're efficient with your workouts, you'll have all you need. They have 2 treadmills, an elliptical, 2 stationary bikes, yoga mats, dumbells, a press bench, medicine balls, and yoga balls, as well as a shower, bathroom, bottled water and towels. I was very impressed with this as most resorts in Bali have either no gym or VERY outdated/insufficient gyms. Our villa was incredible and they made it super special for our honeymoon by decorating with rose petals on the bed and in the bathtub. They have 4+ employees at a time that clean your villa and they are so thorough and efficient - including cleaning the pool of any leaves/debris and testing the water, sweeping the outdoor area, replenishing all complimentary items, cleaning bathroom surfaces/toilet with actual cleaner (not just wiping down), and replacing all water bottles daily. Oh and THE MONKEYS! How could I forget?! Every morning between about 7-9am (and sometimes at other random times of the day), there were monkeys that would hang out in the trees and grass around the property. While I'm pretty sure the staff isn't so pleased about it (we watched a monkey completely destroy one of their plants and eat it), it was a really cool experience for us and we got some great pictures! Just make sure you don't leave anything out because we were told they will take ANYTHING you leave in the outdoor space of your villa and they also tell you to make sure you're always locking up because they can push doors open and lurk in your villa. The location was great, lots of good food, drinks and shopping in the area. We did a LOT of walking around Ubud as we were in the center of everything but if you don't feel like walking, the front desk is always willing to arrange transporation for a (very) small fee. I felt extremely safe and loved that they always checked in with every time we left the resort, asking if we needed anything in the room, if we needed to book any spa or excursion services for the next day, etc. We will definitely be returning next time...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at your hotel about two weeks ago, and I wanted to take a moment to share how incredible my experience was. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and well-catered to, and it was exactly the kind of restful and rejuvenating getaway I was hoping for.
I had the opportunity to enjoy the massage, facial, and reflexology treatments, and I can honestly say they were some of the best spa services I’ve experienced. After my treatments, I indulged in your delicious chocolate chip cookies, which were simply amazing! I also enjoyed breakfast the morning after my arrival—it was a great start to my day.
On my final day, I participated in three of your excursions, all of which were wonderfully organized. You also arranged transportation for me to the airport, which made the departure process smooth and stress-free.
The accommodations were fantastic, and I particularly appreciated the attentiveness of the staff. As a solo traveler, I felt genuinely cared for and supported throughout my stay, which meant a lot to me. The service was impeccable, and I truly felt like I was the only guest there, even though I know that wasn’t the case.
The property itself was peaceful and beautiful, surrounded by lush greenery. The only suggestion I would have is for a bit more lighting around the grounds at night, but that was more due to my personal fear of running into a monkey! That being said, I did spot a couple of monkeys during my walks around the property, but they never bothered me. The geckos, however, did give me a bit of a scare (I’m a bit of a scaredy-cat!).
I truly appreciated the thoughtful touches throughout my stay, such as the welcome drink and sandwich after my late flight, and the nightly red roses on my bed. The staff’s attention to detail was outstanding, especially when they checked my Grab driver’s license plate to ensure I was getting into the correct vehicle.
The hotel’s location was perfect—close to shopping and dining options, all within walking distance. I always felt safe during my stay, and the staff’s kindness and attentiveness made me feel right at home.
I’m so excited to be returning in October with a group for a retreat-style stay, and I can’t wait to experience the Royal Kamuela once again. Thank you to everyone at the hotel for making my stay so memorable. It was a 10/10 experience, and I’ll be recommending your hotel to...
Read moreWe usually stay at 5* hotels generally and have a good indication of when something is worth while for the money being spent.
Unfortunately when it comes down to the Royal Kamuela i just did not feel it was worth the money spent compared to our stay at Padma Ubud.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were advised on all the chargable items in our room and if any damages would ooccur it would be at our cost. Speaking honestly this just felt so distasteful, silly things like stains on sheets were mentioned etc. However some of the bath towels that were provided to us had stains or marks on them already (obviously these had been washed but its wear and tear after being used. We did not complain about this and I know they would have been changed). However just mentioning the silly charges just put me right off.
The wear and tear on the mirrors in the bathroom was terrible numerous chips marks around 8 that I counted and some big ones too. This should be replaced as they make the bathroom look cheap and not 5*.
The furniture inside looks dated and worn and the room just needs a complete refresh to be honest.
Location wise its great close to monkey forest and middle of ubud centre.
The staff are nice and but I didn't feel they go over and beyond in helping out. Example is I wanted someone at reception to help confirm my boat trip with Ekajaya and speak to them in Indonesian and just make sure everything was OK. But felt the member of staff I had asked wasn't really bothered and just called and said no one is picking up. Now if I was managing this hotel I would have said I will contact them again and get back to you once I have been able to speak to them. But this service was not offered and I had been made to feel that I need to do it myself.
I was also sent a message from the hotel who had asked to write a review. But they have already deleted the message as my husband had given his review already and I guess they didn't want me to give my honest review.
This is not a 5* hotel...
