I recently dined at Kathmandu restaurant and was thoroughly disappointed with the experience.
The food quality was far below my expectations. First, the popadoms were not fresh at all, very bland and stale & chewy which they are not meant to be. same with sauces provided.
Also in the mint sauce there was onion or something else buried - they must have reused the sauces from another table they provided me
Ordered Mixed grill for starters. The seekh kebab was dry and zero flavor, the pakora was hard and tasted like it was left under a heat lamp. The chicken “tandoori” was hard and rubbery and freezing.
The mo-mo’s as I was told by waiter I will have to wait 15-20 mins because made fresh, this was a even bigger disaster then the mixed grill starter I shared with my girlfriend.
Mo-mo’s are always going to be ordered if available on the menu if visiting Indian restaurant.
First one was hot and tasted fresh out of steamer. Tasted excellent, But every other one after that was terrible, some were slightly warm, some ice cold. And the filling almost non existent. Bland.
Even the inside filling was cold. The sauce they provided inside for dipping tasted like it came fresh out of supermarket jar cold like it came out of fridge very bland no flavor.
Ordered Garlic chilli masala extra hot, my girlfriend is Indian and spoke to waiter about making it hot and was told it will come “not western style” so we were looking forward to that.
Unfortunately it came mild no where near the level as suggested on the menu with 3 chilli’s. & with talking to waiter to make sure it came as ordered.
The sauce lacked any depth of flavor, and the duck pieces were dry and overcooked. It tasted as if the spices had been added as an afterthought. Lots of meat I will admit. Tender, soft to touch very nice. BUT the flavor doesn’t hold up.
Ordered a lamb biryani, firstly over 24€? For that Major disappointment.
The rice was mushy, and the vegetables were undercooked. It felt like the dish had been hastily thrown together without any consideration for texture or taste. Zero taste about it. Nothing original about it, it also came out COLD.
There is a theme to this restaurant cold dishes, serving on hot plates.
The restaurant wasn’t even busy or full in the slightest so I cannot understand how this can happened. As service was slow.
I have zero issues about waiting but when charging premium prices for cold food, that’s an issue.
The Keama bread was equally disappointing, arriving at our table cold and chewy, as though it had been sitting out for a while.
The ambiance of the restaurant did little to make up for the culinary experience, uncomfortably noisy with music sometimes playing the same song over and over.
Overall, Kathmandu failed to deliver on multiple fronts, I have eaten in many Indian / Nepalese restaurants but very bad experience here.
I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for an enjoyable Indian / Nepalese dining experience. Avoid it is what I would suggest,
Tables are jammed close together.
Spent over 126€ and this is the caliber of food you receive. With two glasses of wine. Wine is served cold which is a nice touch’

Read moreThis note comes after my second sumptuous meal in a restaurant I am now prepared to say is one of my favourite spots in Dublin. I imagine returning often, both for casual dining and, most definitely, for special occasions too, because you see, this is a very special place with an atmosphere all its own that is calm, inviting and genuinely friendly... that's only the start! My dear friends and I ordered quickley, an act efficiently enabled by our charming server "Shalini" (who must herself merit 5 Stars for her professionalism, as well as for the happiness she exuded, even as she was working so hard...). Then, magically, the food started to be placed on our table with an impeccable grace (again, "Thank you Shalini"), as we drank deeply of a really fine full-bodied French merlot which was remarkably well priced and allowed our happiness only increase. Main courses were expertly spirited into our midst with the now obvious realisation that this restaurant is run with an amazing focus on how to treat its customers right and make us glad: it's all in the timing (sometimes it is, anyway...). Food was glorious! Between the three of us, in two courses, we partook of fantastically fresh seafood, great chicken and wonderfully succulent lamb. Rice and naan breads were top class (as were the popadoms and relishes that started it all off...). Excellent coffees and the obligatory digestif that followed were all perfect, and perfectly served, too (not to mention the chocolate mints that took our breaths away). Downstairs bathroom facilities are impeccable, by the way, and the manager, "Amit" by name, is the soul of decency as the whole experience attests (several other servers, not to mention the all-important kitchen staff of course, whose names I unfortunately didn't note, all make up a truly top team at this fabulous restaurant). "BRAVO, Kathmandu Kitchen!" - 5 stars...
Read moreBit of a mixed experience - despite some bad points I won’t just give one star (like some idiots would) and will offer a balanced review here. The staff were courteous and very polite - however I did feel that some dishonesty was apparent here. The mo mo dumplings were on the menu as a sharing platter for two - it clearly stated that. When I asked the waiter if I could have this starter for one, he said “it IS for one” so I thought ok, you will give me half and charge me half. No. The eventual bill was for the full amount but I seriously couldn’t be bothered to argue - never the less €17.95 for a single starter is a lot, despite that, I think they still gave me the starter as if I was eating for two, so at least I wasn’t given half the food and still charged for two. As for the flavours, I’ve had mo mo before and these were rather bland but well made and I still enjoyed them as I was bloody ravenous anyway. For the main I had a Himalayan “authentic” lamb dish with a garlic Nan - I cannot quite remember the name of the dish but it was called something like “Labadado” - it had a heat rating of two out of three so I thought it would have a decent kick. The main was very tasty but lacked kick, which was slightly disappointing but, I am rather “seasoned” when it comes to tolerating heat, I actually found that the dish gave me more heat toward the end of finishing it, so either there was a subtle build up or it wasn’t mixed very well in the sauce. The garlic Nan was really fantastic.
So to sum it up, everything was decent but not mind blowing - I also thought it was expensive, but that’s Dublin for...
