This is a secret secret pearl in Dublin: An unforgettable experience at M&L Szechuan Restaurant
I had the great pleasure of visiting Szechuan Restaurant in Dublin and I must say it was an outstanding experience! As soon as you enter the restaurant, you immediately feel welcome and at home. The informal atmosphere and authentic ambience are simply enchanting.
It is particularly impressive that many Asian guests eat there, which speaks for the authenticity and quality of the cuisine. The menu is wonderfully balanced and offers a variety of highlights to suit every taste.
The Hot & Sour Soup is an absolute must as a starter - it is simply delicious! Also recommended are the Szechuan cucumbers, which offer a refreshing and spicy note. The highlight of our evening, however, was the Deep Fried Chicken with Dry Chilli and Crispy Peanuts. The combination of crispy chicken, hot chilli and crunchy peanuts is simply sensational.
The spiciness of the dishes is just right - pleasantly hot, but not overpowering. For those who like it particularly spicy, I recommend telling the friendly staff, who are happy to accommodate individual requests.
The prices at Szechuan Restaurant are very fair and the portions are generous, so you leave the restaurant with a satisfied smile.
Overall, I can only warmly recommend this Szechuan restaurant. It offers authentic, tasty cuisine in an inviting atmosphere. A visit here is an absolute must for all lovers of Asian...
Read moreEntering this place, you feel like a second class citizen, made clear when you notice the board of specials, only written in Chinese but place was packed so my wife and I thought it was a good sign for things to come. Boy were we in for a disappointment...
Place is small but very busy, they struggle with service (two waiters came by saying they'll come to take our order but forgot so I had to be assertive once I saw last waiter just came behind the counter oblivious to the fact). Our table was directly next to another one (no privacy). People came coming in and out letting icy cold air in The toilets were dirty (thick layer of dust in toilet brush, in corners and dirt on ground). But the biggest disappointment was the food. We always order at least one same dish to benchmark a new place, sweet and sour chicken and it was bland. Worst, the hot and sour soup (which I had many times in the past even in a szechuan restaurant in China) had a really weird taste (we didn't eat it after a few sips). I was after a nice Szechuan spicy dish, staple of this province known for its spicy and tasty food so I tried the Szechuan diced chicken. Again, the dish was bland, not spicy at all, with a very soggy chicken.
All in all a very big disappointment, we will not be coming back. There are much better and authentic Szechuan places to to try, for instance the Blue Orchid in...
Read moreAfter reading good reviews about this place is went this evening. A little dull inside but you can get past that. After a few mins we were both cold and had to put on our coats. We ordered the pork dumplings which were nice. I had the hot and sour soup which was just ok. I couldn't make out some of the ingredients in the bowl. We ordered the green beans. Nice but at nearly 10 euro way overpriced. Average so far. Then came the mains. I had sizzling szechuan prawns. No sizzle just a plate of prawns and veg completely swimming in oil. One bite and my palate was thick with grease. We also ordered the beef and black bean. The same major issUK. Simply not edible. There appeared to be no care taken in both dishes and way way way too much oil thrown in. An dreadful mess. What a waste of food. I mentioned this to our waiter upon requesting the bill. All he could say was sorry as if he is used to the word. Bill came with full charge evenue though it was evident that the dishes were barely touched. Very very poor. Will stick to the local takeaway if I fancy a Chinese in future. A fraction of the price and at least edible. Though this place has turned me off Chinese for a while I think. I rarely ever do a review but I felt I had to on this occassion. Simply dreadful. I would give...
