After our experience at Restaurant Six I had to do a thorough check of the reviews cause I thought maybe we inadvertently went to a completely different restaurant. Let me also preface this by saying that things happen, and we totally understand that, but how a place deals with issues is pretty telling.
We had 7:00 reservations. We get to restaurant door which had been locked. Confused about entrance we pop into hotel next door, which we learned was connected to the restaurant. We learned there was a power outage that impacted the whole street. So they just locked door to their restaurant? Anyway, the host said it was probably going to come back on, and that they’d give us drinks at hotel. We go and order drinks we comes to 12 eur. The bartender charges us (even though we were certain they said they’d be comped). We only had a 10, and they can’t take cards cause the electricity is out. (Keep in mind we were going to stay till came back on so they always could’ve added to our bill). The bartender then got all stressed about how he’d cover the additional 2 eur from the tip jar, to make us feel cheap. Then we heard the host explain the drinks were being comped, so the kid was grinning from ear to ear cause he pocketed the 10 as a tip, which I thought was weird.
Then power came back on, we sit in a dead quiet restaurant with only 3 other tables booked. The server again offered us comped drinks, and we ordered Margheritas. Then he said “I wouldn’t order cocktails because there will be a rush on the and now that power is back on”. We didn’t care about wait so we ordered them anyway. They use sugar instead of salt, so, they weren’t good in my opinion but whatever. We tried to get check as fast as possible because we wanted to go to some bar/restaurant that was alive. The server said “no no, please take your time, enjoy.” When the check came our cocktails weren’t comped and they even had built in gratuity (party of 2. I know this practice is somewhat common in Ireland but not usually for parties of 2 and hopefully the service would at least justify it.)
The food was fine, nothing too noteworthy to complain about there. My “aged” beef didn’t really taste like that. Seemed like a really cheap cut, but seasoning and everything was pretty good.
I’d avoid this place at all costs, mostly because of the ambience. It just felt...
Read moreWe chose this restaurant for an early meal before attending the theatre across the road. The website showed a two-course menu available every evening between 5 and 7, at €32, which we were happy with. Our booking was for 4 people at 5.30pm. However, the two-course menu advertised was not made available to us that night and the a la carte menu was extremely expensive for the quality and quantity of food. Mains came with no potato or vegetables at all, so keep in mind that side dishes will be necessary. We thought that perhaps we had made a mistake about the two-course menu availability, but after checking from home that evening it does indeed say that it’s available every night. We emailed the restaurant about it and did not receive a reply. We emailed again and were told that that menu is only offered to people who request it when they make a booking.. What a daft thing to say! If that was the case then surely they would have to say so on the website? Also we booked via OpenTable rather than on the phone- where were we supposed to request which menu we wanted to be shown..? Finally, wine is not available by the glass, but by the bottle only. Something to bear in mind if there are only one or two drinkers among your party! So, very poor follow-up customer service and average but overpriced food. The positive was the waiting staff who were all lovely, although they were perhaps overwhelmed when customers started to roll in later in the evening and service became very slow, meaning we had to hurry across the road to the theatre to be in our...
Read moreRestaurant Six served us food cooked to perfection, accompanied by excellent house wine, all at a reasonable price. Unlike many places that overcharge and serve smaller portions, Six offered generous servings. We were delighted to receive delicious compliments from the chef and even chocolates to round off our meal.
The vegetables were a standout—creative, vibrant, and full of flavor. Picture this: candied beetroot salad with toasted walnuts, avocado, and beetroot aioli, paired with a pea and asparagus risotto that was a true taste sensation. Each bite felt indulgent yet refined. My dining partner, who takes steak very seriously, declared it the best he’d ever had—a bold claim, but well-deserved. This steak delivered on all fronts: flavor, tenderness, and juiciness, elevated further by a unique mustard cream sauce instead of the usual pepper sauce. It was a perfect balance of boldness and comfort.
The restaurant's intimate, relaxed ambiance added to the experience, with its white linen tablecloths, gleaming silverware, and attentive service. It felt exclusive without being overpriced—a rare and welcome find.
We couldn't help but speculate on the name "Six" and its subtle allure. While the meaning remains a mystery, it captures the idea of satisfying more than just hunger—a perfect metaphor for a restaurant that leaves you feeling...
