I had heard mixed reviews about Wallace's Taverna, but being an optimist, I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, my experience at this establishment was nothing short of a dining disaster. From the inattentive service to the tasteless food, Wallace's Taverna managed to turn my excitement into utter disappointment.
Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed the decor was dated and lackluster. The dim lighting and worn-out furniture did not create the welcoming atmosphere one would hope for in a dining establishment. Despite the restaurant not being busy, it took us a good 15 minutes to be seated, as the host seemed disorganized and preoccupied.
Once seated, our server took an inordinate amount of time to approach our table. When we finally placed our orders, the server seemed disinterested and impatient, making no effort to offer recommendations or answer our questions about the menu. The appetizers arrived after a lengthy wait, and they were underwhelming, to say the least. The bruschetta was soggy.
Our entrees did not fare much better. My companion's pasta dish, which was supposed to be creamy , was watery and bland. My own dish, was overcooked to the point where the rice was mushy and the seafood was devoid of any flavor. It was clear that the quality of ingredients and attention to detail were severely lacking in the kitchen.
To top off the dreadful experience, our server was slow to clear our plates and seemed to vanish entirely when it was time to present the bill. When we finally managed to pay and leave, we felt relieved to escape the disappointing environment.
In summary, I cannot recommend Wallace's Taverna to anyone seeking an enjoyable dining experience. The lack of attentive service, coupled with subpar food quality, leaves much to be desired. There are plenty of other dining options in the area that offer better value and a more satisfying...
Read moreI used to order from this place a few times a week. Their pizza and tagliatelle alla bolognese were really, really good. So since we were in the mood for italian I thought: what better place than Wallace's Taverna?
Yet, the night took a turn for the worse. It started from the very beginning. We were in the restaurant waiting to get seated yet the servers were just chatting between themselves, ignoring us. After around 5-7 minutes standing there, they finally asked if they "could help".
Once we were seated, we looked at the menu and it was completely changed from a few months ago. The only thing remaining was the tagliatelle... So we ordered those.
The tagliatelle came in record time. Took around 7 minutes (I checked). The mistery of how was solved once we tasted the plate. They say they serve pasta "al dente". That was clearly not the case. The pasta was very wet, as though it stayed in the water too long. The souce was VERY watery and it was like eating a soup not a pasta.
My guess? They had previously made the pasta for another table. Then so they don't cook from scratch for our table, they must have used scraps from the previous cook and "longed" the souce by putting water in it hoping we wouldn't notice.
Overall probably the worst italian meal I've ever had. I'm not sure how this happened... Their takeaway was very good but clearly management or the cooks changed and turned cheap.
STAY FAR AWAY...
Read moreWe were in the mood for Italian so we went to this place and it was a great choice. It’s quite a busy place - we were lucky enough to get a table but to be sure I would book a table in the future. It’s very cozy and rustic decor inside and it has two floors. We ordered the Burrata and two pizzas (the Gorgonzola and the Brigante 2.0), they also had many different drink options and actually made me a Limoncello spritz even though it wasn’t on the menu which was very kind of them. The service was excellent and speedy, the Burrata came out at the same time as the drinks did and not even 15 minutes later after we finished the appetiser our pizzas came out. The staff were very attentive and brilliant and were kind enough to pack up our leftovers in a to go box and made sure to thank us and say bye to us as we were leaving. If we lived close enough we’d definitely order from them (The Burrata is seriously to die for, please do yourself a favour and order it - it tastes like a bruschetta but as a cheese and the bread was delicious as well as the thinly sliced crispy bread on top was gorgeous) but for now we’d have to settle for coming...
