We attened the combination dinner/music pub crawl. I would give the music portion a 5+. The music was not only entertaining but educational as well. It started in the Ha' Penny Bridge Inn (Temple Bar area) in a special upstairs bar room that was a perfect venue for ordering a drink and listening to the music and the music was excellent. The reason for the lower 4 stars is the venue for the food. After the Ha' Penny Bridge Inn we all walked across the bridge to Flannagan's Restaurant where we went to a very cramp downstairs room. The food was okay but nothing exceptional. There were probably 50 - 60 in the group so the mass food serving made it more like food at a convention. We were seated at table 8 to 10 people laid in a banquest style. So the room was terrible for view the music and Irish dancer. They were not sitting up high enough to be viewed (just on a small riser). Because people were all crammed in next to each other and in rows of long tables for eating, when they began playing/dancing it was hard to see them for the in your line of sight. Also we were in the back and the servers / bar was making noise which affected our listening. In summary it was adequate but not as "fantastic" as we expected nor as other reviewers have described. Perhaps if you sign up for just the music version they may not cram you in the small room in Flannagans. Still the music h dance performance were a...
Read moreWe arrived at the Ha Penny Inn really excited for our Musical Pub Crawl. We went upstairs and got a couple of nice ales and were soon joined by several others. Two musicians went to the front of the room, introduced themselves, and began chatting about traditional Irish music. They cracked some jokes along the way, especially about the Temple Bar as not being a place for real music. Well they played a song and started bantering about pubs, music, and traditions. And they played another song. More talking and chatting and talking and talking snd they played another song and more talking.
This was supposed to be a musical pub crawl, but by 9:00pm we’d heard maybe three songs and heard lots of talking. And the crawl? Well, turns out we were going to walk twenty minutes to the next venue, same musicians, just a different place, and that was it for the evening. We walked and walked and walked some more to arrive at a basement room set up like a seventh grade classroom, ready to hear more talking snd less playing.
We were very disappointed!! Why leave the Ha Penny at all? Seems like a setup to sell some more beer than an evening with musicians.
We left. Would not recommend.
We had more fun at...
Read moreWe were so looking forward to this, but it left me so stressed out I had to bail after the first half and get a drink!
The problem had nothing to do with the two musicians, it was the venue. I strongly recommend that you show up early and seat yourself near the musicians, so that you can hear everything clearly with few distractions.
We ended up sitting near the women's bathroom. The door for the bathroom slammed hard every time someone went in or out. Then there was a loud air blower for a hand dryer. And the bathroom was in continuous use. It was so distracting it was tortuous.
Then this combined with the multiple groups around us who talked periodically throughout the whole event. There was even a group of 4 who all had their phones out the entire time and would chat with each other about what they were seeing.
We were also right behind a doorway that leads to stairs into the main pub, which people would periodically come up to see what was going on.
One of the musicians was soft spoken and hard to hear even with the best of conditions. I guess that's the only comment directed towards the two musicians.
You need a new opening venue. I never saw the...
